Well there's a surprise, what are they going to do with that big pile of CV's that they boasted to have accumulated? Wonder if CTC got paid for sorting through that big pile of CV's?

any idea if they had even got off the ground yet and if many people were working for them??
JB did not even have the decency to go to LIS to tell people the company was winding down

low n' slow
"I'm glad now that 2000 hrs wasn't enough... "
Think a few that did apply, who were not ex military or ex airline are also breathing a sigh of relief.
Not one to say I told you so but to me this was no surprise.
Feel sorry for the employees, especially anyone who has given up a job to join them.
Start small, consolidate and keep small if possible, wiser heads than mine have told me.

EIGHTY ???!!!
Hell that's a big empire for just one flight a day.
When people write stuff like 'shame' and 'good to go down fighting', just remember that those laudable tactics are usually at someone else's expense, not just with JB's money. There are victims from that sort of delusional privilege of running a company so far from reality. Victims include any sharer who actually put money down, any card holder who got left out in the cold...and [assuming kindly that there are none in either category], then the investors, staff that gave up other jobs seduced across to join, pilots who went through interviews and checks at their own cost, and let's hope not a string of suppliers who might have offered them credit. I can even feel sorry for the manufacturer who I'm sure walked in eyes open but must have felt he needed the orders more than his rivals, to give such a tempting discount in the first place. Perhaps that's where the rot starts - the programme operator gets blinded by the earnings not the problems of selling planes clients don't actually want?
London Financial Times quote: Jet Republic said on Thursday: “Until very recently, we remained very confident of meeting our objectives.”
Recently? How recently!
Rermember these guys launched after the crash; they're not a victim of it.
I'd love to hear soon that the investors closed it up cleanly and no one's out of pocket, otherwise running a company of that size in that way for that long without clients, is grounds for a medical discharge.
New business ventures are the life and soul of a strong economy and an entrepreneurial business culture - just remember that they're not all of the same calibre.

It was a bad idea from the beginning in my opinion. The Lear 60XR was a terrible choice given its performance limitations - you need better short-field performance for the ski resorts. Trying to fit a flight attendant in a Lear 60XR is ridiculous too unless you limit passengers to 1-2 total - that cabin is already tight. The ex Netjets Europe management members should have known and evaluated this concept better.
Unfortunately the timing was terrible too with the bad recession. That wasn't management's fault but it really was the coup de grace.
Better luck next time (hopefully with a better aircraft choice and an improving or stable economy)...

regarding the aircraft, I assume that JR didn't had too many choices, since Gulfstream, Dassualt, HawkerBeechcraft and Cessna are NJ customers and sold them hundred's of aircraft.

Or shall I say, Shame e-mail...
Anyway, I couldn't believe in them, aircraft, people, etc etc...
shame at all stages, it's a pity for some of those who believed and moved to LIS in order to make the company work.
Take care guys

Gloating.
Some of you will be wondering where your posts have gone since the announcement of JR's demise. I removed them because without exception they all made personal attacks on one person and were revelling in the demise of the company.
Some of our colleagues will have lost their jobs here which leaves me wondering just what type of people we have in this forum. Who in their right mind derives pleasure from this? Those in question need to take a good look at themselves and question their behaviour.

DUCK
It is not a question of gloating, a lot of people including me stated that the business plan was flawed and it had no hope in hell of succeeding. I think this forum has the right to warn people of this informed opinion. It is wrong that people can waste other peoples money with crazy ideas and it is also wrong for companies such as this to lure staff away from secure jobs.
Just check my previous posts (if they have not been deleted), they were never personal, just warnings

Duck,
I think everybody on here feels for those that are loosing their jobs.
However, it must be allowed to crtitizize their timing, aircraft choice, marketing hype etc.
Additionally I can understand why a lot of people feel a sense of satisfaction regarding the "failure" of JB, notwithstanding the above.
Imagine one of the more unpleasant people you have had dealings with during your working live, would start up a company, announcing 110 airrcraft on order, claiming to change the world of private jet travel (with a less than ideal aircraft for the job), making very bold statements in the press (bordering on arrogance), wouldn't you feel similar if that endevour failed.
I have yet to come across someone who has worked with JB before and would happily work for him given a suitable alternative.
I have no axe to grind with the guy, but it does tell something if hardly anybody that knows him likes him or wants to work for him.
Again, sorry about those who have lost their jobs. Infact, I think a bit of competition for NetJets would have been healthy for everybody if it wasnt for the current market conditions.
Anyway, hope you can see where I am coming from and don't delete this post. I am just expressing an opinion.

Part of the reason that I was questioning the business plan was precisely because I didn't want people to lose their jobs after joining this company. I've been laid off before and have great sympathy to those who have lost their job as a result of JR closing.

Duck - i disagree with youref JR
Duck ,
i disagree with you very radically, and in order to do so have joined pprune, specifically to make this post about Jet Republic.
It burst on to the scene a year ago. It sounds as if all the amazing marketing spend and material that we have encountered (outspending many more established Companies including ours), resulted in arranging about 20 charters a month, with about 80 staff. From the web site they look very highly paid sort of chaps. No aircaft. Pure brokerage. A competitor of sorts for us.
I have a brokerage. We arrange about 350 charters a month with 110 staff. Its hard work keeping the books balanced. Jet Republic have not only passed the last year outspending us on staff and marketing they did so by an outrageous country mile.
It has been very dispiriting for our professionals and no doubt others working hard in our industryto suddenly see a chap arrive announce in the papers a billion dollar aircraft order - strictly for the publicity of course-- (none of us professionals believed a single aircraft would fly) Then huge quantities of inordinately expensive marketing material landed on the doorsteps of our clients. And did so regularly. We knew that they didn't know what they were doing. that was obvious. We knew that the spending and behaviour patterns were not adding up to normal business practise. We felt, in fact hoped it would all fall over sooner rather than later as it was clearly a high octane p.r. nonsense.
We saw this chap suddenly feted as the spokes person for our industry, yet we knew he didn't know. It was galling. Yes, we predicted their demise but with a nagging fear of course: That a mexican billionaire may indeed just may fund 20 to 30 million usd a year of losses, for enough years to damage good Companies operating within their means.
We are very pleased the pantomime is over Duck. We genuinely think its right, proper and good news for the industry in the long run. Obviously with no aircraft being delivered, they clearly would have/should have kept customer deposits ring fenced, so they just spent the supposed 5 million start up funds too quickly Thats poor management. It would not have been rocket science to make it last until September, when the first aircraft arrived. It may spell the end of the flying timeshare fad, only time will tell. The ground based time shares ( flats in Spain) after an initial hard sell induced boom faded into a small niche area. Net Jets enormous losses just announced and now this schemes demise, may be the beginning of the end of fractionals as a major play, and it may just become a small niche market from here. I certainly hope so. its a hard sell marketing led product, not a customer led one.
sorry to disagree so strongly and have such a rant

quite a lot of gloaters now here. this for you:
people took risks and then they failed. that is life. this is the real world. this is what economies are based on - taking risk, creating jobs.
other people just sit and waste Berkshire's cash to the tune of $250 million per quarter, and admire how great and smart they are...that's easy.

You're on the ramp, you see a relatively new aircraft preparing for departure. As an industry old lag, you are shocked that it sits one wing low, slats mis-aligned, oil pouring from the starboard engine, a birds' nest in the pitot tube and what looks like a damaged fuselage stringer. As the passengers board, and the crew complete their checks, do you look the other way and let it go, or speak up.....?
It's a free world but what price a bit of experience?

I agree with most of what you say, but economies thrive from companies that make true not paper profits. JR had no chance of making any profits at all so it would not have been good for the economy. All it would have achieved (if it had manged to get off the ground) was to distort the market by burning investors' cash.
The problem is that our industry is perceived by many to be "sexy" so too many gullible investors are conned with hype and half truths and that is NOT good for the long term health of G.A.
