For general info for those with better things to do than trawl through this thread, The G5 fleet is still adding airframes, hence new people can be expected to be assigned to it. This is not a mistake and such people are not "marginal". As has been discussed already with a long wait for upgrade, a 1 yr seat lock will make no difference to upgrade prospects.

Just to add my two penneth worth, I would not recommend comming here if you cannot survive for a few years on the FO salary with maybe 8 -10 per diems per month. As long as the downturn continues you cannot depend on any more and upgrade now looks to be at least two years away and possibly longer. Personally I have no regrets because my previous gig would have killed me long before reaching retirement, many are not in the same position and I understand their irritation at taking a big pay cut on the hope of a quick upgrade. Look on the bright side, you might have joined Zoom or XL or even EBJ. You have to speculate to accumulate as my old grandad told us from debtors prison.

Unfortunately, by using the search function, you end up looking at a merged thread with currently 99 pages and a lot of nonsense (including your answer).
I wish I had the time to read them all.
I was just asking a simple question and was hoping for a simple answer.
No smart comments on posting a simple question were necessary.
(That might help to keep the thread a bit smaller)

Mr Booth was hired in 2001 to launch a European operation copying the original model that sells customers a share of a corporate jet for a number of hours each year - fractional ownership in the jargon.

What is the origin of this jargon? Booth was not hired in 2001 and did not set the European operation up! I cannot remember how many CEO's preceded him!

May I suggest to delete ccdoshi´s post? The article he´s quoting is from 2004 and quoted without naming the source - I think it might become a copyright issue. Something similar happened to the german pilots bulletin board.

How do we know it's a quote? Perhaps he wrote it himself?

If he didn't and has breached copyright the problem's his should any original author come knocking. Mind you, given the glaring inaccuracies in the post I'd be surprised if the originator could even find his way out of bed let alone this place

Application

I am about to send in my application using the 5 page word document offered to download on the NJE web page.
I am asking someone who recently applied and got a response from recruiting; They want "just" the word document via email in a .doc format, no additional scans, no cover letter or additional CVs or .pdf? That is all they want for the initial application? Will I get an email saying they received my application?

Maybee, but possibly not.

I've sent my application in the beginning of januari, got a phone interview in june and was then told recruitment is on hold until the end of the year.

Did not hear anything thereafter, I guess I will have to search somewhere else for a job.

But maybee you are more lucky than me, anyway I wish you good luck

Hi gents,
Same situation as described, I sent the Word NJE application form in April, I got a phone interview in May and an email afterwards which confirmed an assessment in London or Paris....that will be delayed until the end of the year.....
let's be patient, things will get better.

I actually read all the 100 pages of posts and got the point, there are no phone interviews, no assessments and no indocs for an undetermined time (most likely not till later in 2009). So you guys sent in the word document with your data in it and nothing else with it. O.K. that helps.

social security in NJ

hello everybody,
i have a question regarding the percentange of the gross salary that NJ gives to UK as social security tax; is there any of you (insider..) that can explain me the purposes of this tax, e.g. if it will be for a pension in the future or anything else.

Well, NJE doesn't "give" NI to the UK, you pay this yourself out of your gross salary. Technicallity, I know.

What I can remeber it is 5% for Cpt and about 7~8% for FO's. The reason for this tax is quite simple: as a EU national working in the EU you HAVE to pay NI somewhere in the EU. And since the contract is based in the UK, this is were you pay your NI.

And yes, it is towards your UK state pension (guess this will be quite small when the times arrives ), and other stuff like f.e. child support ect.

I am not sure where you get your figures from. The standard NI contributions are 11%, about to be increased to 12% for an employee. What difference does rank make? Additionally, The employer pays 12% of your salary on top!
It pays for pension topup as a non payer still gets a state pension, along with NHS etc. It's important to realise that receipts now pay for benefits now. ie: it is not being invested for your retirement, they will rely on future contributions for that, if there are any??????
