For those that fancy a punt at this, two very famous aviators visited this site in its' early days.

West or East of the Mississippi?

ea200 12th Mar 2024 09:17

West of the Mississippi.

Ea200,
perhaps the route you have flown when you past overhead will shed some light on the location of the sheds?

ea200 12th Mar 2024 10:21

It would be very generous. Suffice it to say, I was in tourist mode and wanted to see some of the well known scenery in this area. As I recall, the airfield was still shown on the sectional in the 80s but it is not now.

South of the Mason-Dixon Line (as extended)?

lets take the Missouri Compromise line (Parallel 36°30′ north)

ea200 12th Mar 2024 21:03

South of that.

Does the State Flag have an ursine character?

ea200 13th Mar 2024 08:26

It is not in the Golden State.

Indeed it would, and it is in Arizona.

Ombinda 14th Mar 2024 11:19

Can't post links but if you look up "historical airfields arizona" Red Butte looks suspiciously similar?

ea200 14th Mar 2024 13:51

Well done Ombinda, it is Red Butte. Opened 1927 and visited by Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart who had her aircraft serviced there. Fell out of use after the opening of the new Grand Canyon airport in 1967. I am pretty sure I know how Bear found it so quickly. I used all the info available at that time and contructed a search that found it in less than 10mins. Note to self, do my own search before posting in future. Thanks to Bear and Thnarg for letting others keep searching.

Ombinda has control.

Pretty obviously not in regular use anymore. But I know some people who have landed there and would love to visit this spot myself.

chevvron 14th Mar 2024 18:05

Alamagordo just far enough away from ground zero?

Ombinda 14th Mar 2024 18:09

Cold, very cold.

thnarg 14th Mar 2024 18:58

I’m no christian but that looks like a German lutheran church, so…

Asturias56 15th Mar 2024 09:40

Well if that is so ..... German deserts? Not Samoa, so S. Morocco or Namibia I guess................
