That was another very lucky punt I took there. Cheers SLB. Great photos.
Now... I took this from a few thousand feet up, a few years ago. Lampposts, fences etc. difficult to make out.

Enlarging the picture that looks like quite a smart terminal - maybe a significant regional airport? Looks like Europe to me??

Depends if the French Air control was on strike or not.
That can mix up a lot of routes easily.

Terminal could be of communist architecture.
Layout of taxi ways could also be East-European.
East-Europe or former Russia East of Caucasus?

Evening, team.
Apologies for the slow reply, although there's been some interesting discussion. None of it correct, unfortunately, except the fact that it is in Europe (although not the Eastern variety, and 'significant regional' wouldn't really do justice to this airfield).
As to the route, I had just taken off from this airfield en-route to the UK on a scheduled service
At least I've ruled out a few places :)

I'll be back on line at about 6.30 pm UK time. I'll give some more clues then if needed...

Is it Germany as per Sycamore's question?

Nope, the only correct guess so far is that it's in Europe. I can reveal though that it was used by the Luftwaffe in World War 2...
Another photo will follow later this evening if nobody recognises it before then :)

chevvron 23rd May 2024 18:02

Ex Warsaw Pact possibly Poland?

jensdad 23rd May 2024 18:09

No, not ex-Warsaw Pact, I'm afraid.
It was and is in the other bunch: NATO.

As promised, a less-cropped version of the same photo, with some additional clues.

Further information, if needed, will follow at about 6pm UK time!

Looks like another hint might be needed...
The scheduled service on which I had just taken off from this airfield was on a British Airways A321.

Go North, young man :)

Thanks for the slope-roofed shed, thnarg. Could it also be that the lighting gantries have a look about them that's particular to this neck of the woods?

jensdad 25th May 2024 01:22

I'm surprised this has lasted so long! More explicit clues & info at 1800BST tomorrow, as I'll be skulking around on a Northumberland hilltop during the day.
An oily part of the world, although maybe not in the immediate neighbourhood. I think SLB might have travelled through this airport.

Asturias56 25th May 2024 03:46

"Oily" in Europe = Scotland, Norway, Denmark .

Luftwaffe WW2 suggest Norway or Denmark

But the reference to SLB suggests the Netherlands..............

thnarg 25th May 2024 07:58

While JD’s away up the hill, here’s a lamppost:
