It looks French or Italian to me. That clumsy air scoop below the cowling is very distinctive, as is what appears to be a nice clean bubble canopy.

Which prefectly explains the strange position of the exhaust and the almost symmetrical cowling lines...d'uh! oh!

chevvron 2nd Apr 2023 19:33

I have to admit that sycamore gave me the idea when I googled the Folland f108 and came up with something called 'oldmachinepress.com' which included the full picture of the Battle.

BEagle 3rd Apr 2023 08:29

chevvron, you are indeed correct. It was the Fairey Battle used as a Napier Sabre test bed.

Over to you!

chevvron 3rd Apr 2023 10:21

Open House.

Asturias56 3rd Apr 2023 14:31

Fields in the background look like NW Europe - possibly a river or the coast near the top of the pic?

ea200 10th Apr 2023 16:31

Fisher P-75?

BEagle 11th Apr 2023 07:59

ea200, absolutely correct - it is indeed the Fisher P-75 BEagle!

Rather a poor aircraft, intended to be a long range escort fighter. Heavy, unmanoeuvrable and unstable, it was soon canned in favour of the P-51 with additional fuel tanks.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher_P-75_Eagle

ea200, you have control!!

Asturias56 11th Apr 2023 08:16

8 minutes!!!! I can't type that fast.....................

ea200 11th Apr 2023 08:35

Thanks BEagle. I came across P-75 when I was searching for the What Cockpit thread just a few days ago. As soon as I saw it I knew I had seen it before and a quick review of my search history did the job. I only logged on just after your post by chance.

Now for somethng a bit more recent:

Asturias56 11th Apr 2023 13:46

very swish!!

BEagle 11th Apr 2023 14:16

Isn't it still just a concept aircraft?

Asturias56 11th Apr 2023 15:53

I think so.............
