how about the Fokker G.1
Well done Kitbag! :ok:

Your control.

Kitbag 23rd Mar 2014 14:31

TVM, away from my main computer right now. If anybody else wants to jump in then fill your boots. I'll do something later tonight otherwise.

Have a go at this one ...

http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/...ps56f6b525.jpg

Didn't work very well.

semmern 23rd Mar 2014 17:12

XF4H Phantom prototype?

Zaxis 23rd Mar 2014 17:37

sorry... not that

semmern 23rd Mar 2014 17:46

No idea then. That looks so much like some sort of Phantom to me!

Noyade 23rd Mar 2014 20:09

No idea then.
G'day Semmern. Think American. Think V/STOL. One author called it a "Naval V/STOL disaster", yet the company involved could build a Space Shuttle.

:)

Zaxis 23rd Mar 2014 20:31

Nice clues, Noyade.

Semmern follow them and you'll get there

This is the only way it got off the ground

Rockwell XFV-12. Certainly looks like the Phantom prototype from the nose to the intakes. Oh well. I didn't solve this one, so Noyade or Zaxis, all yours.

Zaxis 23rd Mar 2014 21:19

Semmern in control as far as I'm concerned.
Hope you learnt a bit more aviation history. I love glorious failures and this was one of the best.
Over to you

semmern 23rd Mar 2014 22:44

Thanks, gentlemen.

A double whammy for you, then. The second one is a picture from one of my own flights. See if you can guess the plane from the information on the screen. Not much history or nostalgia per se, although there is a connection for me, but I'll explain when you've identified it. Knowing you lot, I say when, not if ;)

The aircraft is a Northrop N-3PB, operated by the Royal Norwegian Navy Air Service. The aircraft is on display at the Norway Armed Forces Aircraft Collection in Gardermoen. A few N-3PBs were operated in Canada from Toronto's Island Airport harbour during WW.II, supporting the "Little Norway" training operations.

Looks like you've got the Torp/Sandefjord VOR/DME programmed in the GPS, level FL250, with a TAS of 199 kts.

buttrick 24th Mar 2014 04:38

Something like a king air or tbm-700

Pressurised
Small
Probably single piston as cruise speed a tad low, so going for a Mooney or similar

semmern 24th Mar 2014 07:58

N3PB is correct.

In my second picture, TOR is set in the GPS. If you look at the nav radios top left, I've got Vesta VOR (VES) in Denmark set in NAV1, and the DME next to the mini-map is showing 15.9nm, which means I'm just off the coast of Denmark. FL250 and a TAS of 199kts is correct. It's a single-engine piston. Not a Mooney. Not pressurised. Have another guess before I spill the beans :)

Cessna Corvalis 350 ?

semmern 24th Mar 2014 15:11

A Corvalis indeed, but a 400, not a 350 :)

Pic taken on my way home from Cambridge after Flying Legends last year. Took a couple of students along for the weekend. They wanted to fly to somewhere in Europe, I gently nudged them towards Dux and Flying Legends. Ended up flying to Cambridge on Friday and hitching a ride with a friend who airlinered over and rented a car. 3:30 from ENTO to EGSC. Lunch at EHGG on the way home on Sunday. Not a shabby weekend, that ;)

Playing with the big boys up at FL250

Your controls, evansb.

evansb 24th Mar 2014 20:24

The Corvalis is a beautiful aircraft. This one, not so..

Noyade 24th Mar 2014 22:06

Chinese?
Maybe it didn't remain a project?
Something called the D-2?

evansb 24th Mar 2014 22:21

The D-2 became a real aircraft. The Yench'u XP-1:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps7c8f22bc.jpg

You have control.

Noyade 24th Mar 2014 22:47

Thanks mate. Yours is a fascinating photo then. I know nothing about it other than that sepia image which is from a very old Air Classics magazine. Looks to be a very ungainly aircraft.

Onwards...
