No idea mate.

What does it do? :)

Lightning Mate 24th Apr 2013 06:12

WW2 ?.............

TheiC 24th Apr 2013 18:48

Noyade,

It doesn't do anything, but stuff comes out of it!

LM,

Yes.

(I was going to post a slightly expanded view which would have eased things significantly, but I have a feeling LM might be on the right track; whether someone beats him to it is anyone's guess).

Krakatoa 25th Apr 2013 00:41

Coolant from a RR Merlin PRV.

TheiC 25th Apr 2013 06:26

Nothing along the Merlin line, I'm afraid, Krakatoa....

I'll try to add another image when I find time today.

Lightning Mate 25th Apr 2013 07:02

Looking at the paint colour may I suggest American.

TheiC 25th Apr 2013 07:23

You may suggest that...

Your suggestion would be a good one.

stevef 25th Apr 2013 07:35

Looks rather like a DC3/C47 engine nacelle vent..

TheiC 25th Apr 2013 10:16

Steve, it does indeed... Because it is one. The one on East Kirkby's C47, in fact.

You have control.

stevef 25th Apr 2013 18:31

Thanks, TheiC, I was around Dakotas for a fair few years so it leapt out at me.

Anyone who's flown or worked on these aircraft will recognise this picture instantly.

Well, I dare say it's either the pilot's door latch on a B-N Islander, or Trislander, or...

Something that looks identical to pilot's door latch on a B-N Islander, or Trislander.

How could I forget... That awful realisation that you've just strapped in, got comfy, stowed the papers (God only knows where), and are ready to commit aviation, when you realise that the door is still latched open and you have to undo the straps etc to shut it.

OH if correct, please.

stevef 25th Apr 2013 22:49

Spot on TheiC! - it's a BN2 Islander cockpit door. Once seen (or heard, if the left mag switches are on), never forgotten.

G'day Mel. A Caproni of sorts?

MReyn24050 28th Apr 2013 06:22

Hi Graeme.
This aircraft was not from the Caproni stable.

Noyade 29th Apr 2013 00:51

The Grahame-White E.IV Ganymede?

MReyn24050 29th Apr 2013 08:11

You have it Graeme. The Grahame-White E.IV Ganymede

Noyade 29th Apr 2013 22:45

Thanks Mel. Interesting machine.

Not so obscure...

MReyn24050 30th Apr 2013 12:47

The engine is possibly a Wright R-760. The Naval Aircraft Factory N3N-3 Canary perhaps?

Noyade 30th Apr 2013 13:01

That's him Mel. :ok:
Your control.
