Looks a bit “Brimpton”ish to me....
|
well it's dawn and no additional input from the far side of the Moon ..
Yes Brimpton in Berkshire it is - rather a nice spot as long as you remember to PP and the need to stay north of the runway line The Duchess has control! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....da34c3c2ca.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....871e7a5879.jpg |
Sorry, it’ll have to be open house.
|
Allow me to fill in. The runway in the background and the place in the foreground are related'
I've not partaken for a while but still look in regularly. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....aaf0486481.jpg |
Hearst Castle Airport San Simeon?
|
remember ............... Wait 24 hours to confirm!
as Senior Pilot said (What Cockpit post # 1350 07/01/20) "Quite simply, you can post and discuss to your heart's content from the moment a challenge appears, but the declaration of a winner will not occur until 24 hours has elapsed. This applies to all three competition threads: a reference Wiki also covers the airfield thread.I would emphasise that all threads should respect that this is the Aviation History & Nostalgia forum with an expectation of historic images and/or subjects please." |
wonderful view of the airfield, but bet she gets cold when the wind blows ?.
|
Asturias56 got it after only 11 minutes!. I'll have to try to be more obscure next time.
It is indeed the Hearst Airport in San Simeon close to Hearst Castle and very much a private affair for the Hearst corporation and its guests. Occasionally obstructed by the herd of Zebra that roam the nearby hills. |
San Simeon is one of my favourite spots in the whole USA - we stop there every time we're in state so it was a very familiar view - my dear wife took one look over my shoulder and got it! Do not despair - I think someone did me over in 4 minutes last year
So let's go somewhere far away from Hurst, St Simeon & Citizen Kane https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d10b3ccd2b.jpg |
This area (at least to me) has only graced the pages of history on one occasion - but quite famous

Good morning A56,
Hmmm. A wild stab in the dark, based on the 'graced the pages of history only once' clue: Somewhere around the Gelibolu peninsula in Turkey, otherwise known as the more Ferrarese-sounding 'Gallipoli'? |
Saint Helena? The airport surface looks new with no oil staining.
|
regretfully neither of the above - though in rather odd ways both of you are slightly warm
there isn't a lot of commercial traffic - mainly in country flights but seems popular with private aircraft https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4472e1aa04.jpg |
Could it be Tenerife?
OH if correct. |
Alas no....... the moment of fame involved a famous non-national...........

I think SLB has it.
|
Damn. selected Elba on ZoomEarth and the airport was 'Federico Fellini'; didn't know there was an 'Elba' on the mainland north of Taranto!!
|
yes Bear strikes again!
Elba (the island) - Chevron gave me a worry with St Helena, napoleon's other, less salubrious island home https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....73b0b6dfc1.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....e73b92edc4.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1199fd4efb.jpg |
Thanks Asturias,
When St Helena was called slightly warm, I had sufficient clue. Confirmed by the non-national. However why Gelibolu would be warm eluded me. Now this: Not too far from our exiles: https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....6024a0cb5.jpeg |
