The ORPs look RAF style and the forest looks German - Laarbruch?

dook 21st Oct 2019 07:25

Go a long way east to a land of spicy food.

nvubu 21st Oct 2019 11:48

Hindan Air Force Station.

dook 21st Oct 2019 11:57

Nicely done nvubu.

Hindan it is.

Your service.

nvubu 21st Oct 2019 12:47

Thank you very much - the clue was a bit of a giveaway.

And for the next mystery

Clues are supposed to help and be useful. :)

dook 21st Oct 2019 13:51

I think that might be the 864th Bombardment Squadron B-24 "Ruptured Duck" at Barking Sands.

This is the site:

You didn't need any clues, such as Barking up the wrong tree etc.

You are correct Barking Sands it is.

Thank you kindly.
I started by finding which outfit had that fin marking and took it from there.

I'm intrigued as to where you obtained the challenge, because to use the one I found would have required more chopping at the bottom than yours.

This is not a GE image.

Hmmmm... have to take care with the aircraft markings in future. I should have started with this one :)

I'd guess yours is Warsaw pact?

Anyone fancy a "Name that Plane" thread?

dook 21st Oct 2019 17:43

I would really love a "Name that Plane" thread, but could we please make it "Name that Aircraft". We could then include various flying machines.

If you wish to know why feel free to PM me.

Your revised image doesn't appear in the site I gave above.

Mine was indeed Warsaw Pact and the challenge may not last much longer methinks.

I know, I checked it. :ok:

I liked the alliteration of "Name that Plane".

Flap40 21st Oct 2019 18:25

Well said Flap40 - I couldn't agree more.

I hope nvubu now realises what I was saying.

That is a planer
With which you create a smooth plane.

may I suggest:
A plain game for an aircraft name

Flap40 21st Oct 2019 19:34

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planer

Hand powered = Plane. Mechanically powered = Planer.

dook 21st Oct 2019 19:34

Language translation again. In English it is a plane.

We shall soon have to define the difference between aircraft and aeroplane.

Flap40 21st Oct 2019 19:37

There isn't one. An Aeroplane, or Airplane for those on the other side of the pond, is an Aircraft as is a baloon, airship and glider (and if you believe our CAA, as is a hovercraft).
