Clue. Has a fair claim to being the oldest aerodrome in the world.

dook 21st Sep 2019 20:16

I always thought that was associated with the Wright Brothers but this clearly isn't.

sycamore 21st Sep 2019 20:23

dook, suggest you don`t watch Naked Attraction` late at night........

Kemble Pitts 21st Sep 2019 20:26

I would not suggest the Wrights weren't the first to achieve conrolled powered flight, certainly. But they were nowhere near here.

dook 21st Sep 2019 20:31

Quite normal sycamore. :E

KP - UK ?

Kemble Pitts 21st Sep 2019 20:33

Not the UK.

Ljungbyhed Airport Sweden?

Would that be Waitohi, New Zealand, where Richard Pearse conducted his experimental flights in 1902? OH if correct.

As in Goodman Household in Kenya?

Kemble Pitts 22nd Sep 2019 12:07

Not Sweden, not NZ, not Kenya.

This is going better than I thought.

First use of aerodrome (according to Wiki) was by the French at Viry-Chatillon,a Paris suburb ,now overgrown with housing, nothing visible in the environs..
Another is Gacina,in Russia, but nothing visible there either....
So ,is it Langley in USA..?

Langley's attempts used a houseboat as an 'airfield'.

Kemble Pitts 22nd Sep 2019 14:45

Not USA, not France.

The picture is current and the field is still used, mostly by gliders although I've landed the Jodel there.

dook 22nd Sep 2019 16:24

I thought it might be Ireland but can find nothing.

Possibly one of the low countries.

sycamore 22nd Sep 2019 17:05

Are we in Germany.....?
dook, apart from Harry Ferguson of tractor fame,....

dook 22nd Sep 2019 17:17

Yes - I found Ferguson but no airstrip.

dook 22nd Sep 2019 17:34

Off topic.

JENKINS thinks that a "wire" is 250 ft 240 kts.

May I introduce a very good friend and colleague.

Sycamore - Germany indeed.

Kemble Pitts 22nd Sep 2019 17:42

Another clue. Operations pre-date Wilbur and Orville.
