Asturias56 14th Jul 2019 16:13

Think I've been there - Bolzano, South Tyrol?

Self loading bear 14th Jul 2019 16:28

Ceasar Asturias strikes back.
Bolzano is the closest Aerodrome to Grigno in the Roman Empire.
Ceasar has control

Belissimo!! The uniform was rather a give away.............. and although I've never flown in here the mountains were the final clue

Nice to go up there in summer when it gets a bit hot in the Cities of the Plain

Somewhere completely different

Not a major spot and everyone helps out.

Sounds a bit third world but not India or the far east.

South America then ?

edit: flying club I suggest.

dook 14th Jul 2019 21:32

Found it. :)

Asturias56 15th Jul 2019 07:25

Yes South America

On visiting I was amazed to discover that this apparently peaceful spot spent the first 80 years post Independence fighting both their neighbours and internally (often at the same time) followed by another 80 of terrible internal conflict - all of which the outside world knows little . Luckily the last 30 or so have been peaceful. In fact the country only figures in world history because of a few days of violence which they had nothing to do with and suffered no casualties

Before Dook posts the answer here's another couple of pictures

Asturias56 15th Jul 2019 09:23

Yes - San Juan de Mayo .... a bucolic but pleasant spot..............

So once again maestro!! :ok:

dook 15th Jul 2019 09:41

Thank you.

I was only working on a hunch and was lucky to find it on the web.

How was dinner ?

Asturias56 15th Jul 2019 10:33

Dinner was fine - food was great but the waiter was useless - one of those youngsters who think they'll impress by remembering the whole order for 5 people without making a note and ........... we spend the rest of the evening sorting out who gets what..... sort of Lucky Dip really......

The image, well established built up over a while with all those hangars - looks like WW1 bell tents behind - so lets try W Front 1916-18?

dook 15th Jul 2019 11:13

It was in use from 1911 to the 1920's, so yes to WW1.

However, it was not on the western front.
