Thanks Asturias - you had us running around with that one.

wherever it is the rubber suggests the prevailing wind is strong and persistent from the left of the picture

Only 14 dispersal points in view = a single squadron/ and maybe fighters??

I'd also guess somewhere N of 50 latitude??

dook 22nd Jun 2019 12:43

The latitude is less than 50N.

Mainly fighters but at one point a photograph revealed 34 aircraft there.

jensdad 22nd Jun 2019 14:14

This doesn't narrow it down much, but the airfield design says 'Warsaw Pact' to me for some reason...

dook 22nd Jun 2019 15:26

More than Warsaw Pact really.

Soviet Union. Greater than 100E.

dook 22nd Jun 2019 15:51

The airfield has been disused since the end of the cold war.

dook 22nd Jun 2019 16:39

The airfield is mentioned here:

No Bear.

Keep going - the answer (+photo) is on that site.

I said it is more than 100E.

Wasn't able to find it on that site but I think this is the abandoned airfield at Novorossiya, east of Vladivostock.

It took some finding. I had looked in that area three times before I spotted it.

"Houston, we have a bingo".

lauriebe,

I assure you it's on that site - below the Museum of Polish Arms towards the bottom of the article.

Anyway, well found and you have the con.

Good morning dook.

Have just looked at the site you mentioned again and found the reference. I don't think I went that far down the article earlier.

Let's try this one.

small shadows = low latitudes = S Europe?

lauriebe 23rd Jun 2019 08:24

The challenge is not in Europe.

It is indeed.

Asturias56 23rd Jun 2019 09:19

I think its Sandakan in N Borneo..... went on a day trip there from Tarakan once to collect some kit - far easier getting it in that way than via JKT
