invisible man ?

Excuse me please chaps, where's the reggie spotter gone then ? Or should I consider giving up wine at lunchtime ? One mo' he's there, next he ain't. I suppose he knows there isn't another flight for an hour or two and has gone orf right stage for a cuppa. I mean the good-looking dark haired gent who appeared to be wearing a shalwar kameez. Otherwise it looks like a British Airways 737 classic which might narrow down the field a bit, but more than that, frankly I haven't a clue. LFH

olympus 13th Mar 2012 20:14

Well, I saw the reggie spotter too... It looks somewhat foreign and tropical so I guess the shalwar kameez places it in Pakistan or possibly Bangladesh rather than LHR, but where...?

It will give me something to do this evening.

Lordflasheart 13th Mar 2012 20:34

Thanks Oly. A great relief, beginning to think I'd imagined him. I still favour it as a BA 737, which puts it closer - like Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa. Funny coloured, funny type of fence, more animal proof than security ? LFH

SilentHandover 13th Mar 2012 22:27

How strange, I tried to edit him out on Phtobucket, then when I posted he was there, I have done nothing apart from go to work since and he has now gone! Me and technology are not the best of pals!

p.s. The right country has been mentioned.

evansb 14th Mar 2012 00:34

Zia Int'l., Dhaka, Bangladesh ?

chevvron 14th Mar 2012 01:39

It's 'cos you spelt 'Photobucket' wrong.

SilentHandover 14th Mar 2012 06:52

Sorry Chevv, my standards have slipped since you left.

Not Zia Intl sorry.

nvubu 14th Mar 2012 19:13

Would it be Jessore Airport, Bangladesh

SilentHandover 15th Mar 2012 08:04

It's not Jessore Airport, Bangladesh, as a clue it had occasional visits from Imperial Airways aircraft from 1934.

olympus 15th Mar 2012 09:53

Muhammad Bin Qasim International Airport aka Multan International Airport.

I'm out for the rest of the day so if correct, it will have to be Open House.

SilentHandover 15th Mar 2012 11:53

Olympus has it, it is Multan International. It's Open House.

nvubu 15th Mar 2012 21:32

I posted these two photos on the RAF Sharjah page, but apparently they aren't despite the source documents stating that they were :O

These were both taken during WWII, and I've included links to a full sized version.

This one is captioned "Airport At Sharjah, Arabia."
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/.../Sharjah01.jpg
The full size version (4508x3519) can be found here

The next one is "Control Tower And Installations At An Airfield At Sharjah, Trucial Oman, Arabia"
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/.../Sharjah02.jpg
Again the full sized version (4500x3510) is here

So here is a genuine Which Aerodrome as all I can say that it is somewhere in that area of the world. :ok:

I posted these two photos on the RAF Sharjah page, but apparently they aren't despite the source documents stating that they were http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...s/embarass.gif
What is the authority for saying these are not Sharjah but not saying where they actually are? Why would the statements on the source docs not be believed?

nvubu 16th Mar 2012 07:49

People who have been there when the Fort was around, although admittedly a decade or so after these photos were taken - and lots of things had changed.

Although I must admit I've done some more searching around, and I'm coming to the conclusion that it is at Sharjah.

Should have done more research before posting :O. The below photo is from Picture 75 « Sharjah Airport | 40 years of the UAE and there is the fort.

I'll revert this back to Open House

Lordflasheart 16th Mar 2012 09:32

Congrats Hippo, first bloke in a while to win his own challenge :) but I agree, its better to question it, rather than say it's whatever ... and find out it ain't. Fascinated by your source of old material - won't ask, but like it. LFH

nvubu 16th Mar 2012 11:00

LFH - Thanks for that.

I originally had a few doubts as to whether it was at Sharjah as I couldn't match it to any of the photos on the thread, but I had no reason to doubt the source documents.

It was queried by people who had been there as being too big, the CT not in the right place. But I guess when it is the only thing in the photo with nothng else to compare it with it does look huge, but in the photo above the CT is in a different place and you can relate it's size.

I've also found some other sites which back up my conclusion that it is Sharjah - they are on this thread http://www.pprune.org/aviation-histo...sharjah-7.html

I have to agree with you re the old source material - it's fantastic. Loads more where they came from :ok: - what's more, from all over the globe.

SilentHandover 16th Mar 2012 12:15

To keep things moving, as it is Open House how about this one.

nvubu 16th Mar 2012 17:58

Well I've found a duplicate of your image - only darker in colour - but I have no idea where it is. Tunisia maybe?

SilentHandover 16th Mar 2012 19:12

Wrong continent I am afraid nvubu.
