Is the mystery field in North America? The year appears to be 1930s.

MReyn24050 18th Dec 2011 11:19

It is North America and the date on the caption for the photograph states 1946.

seacue 18th Dec 2011 14:25

How about what is now known as Dover AFB, Delaware?

MReyn24050 18th Dec 2011 15:39

Not Dover AFB, Delaware, Seacue. This one was further north above New York. It also had the same name as an English town though.

Hang about, it isn't Manchester New Hampshire by any chance?

BSD.

MReyn24050 18th Dec 2011 17:57

Not Manchester New Hampshire, just a little too far North.

seacue 18th Dec 2011 18:00

English town? I suppose that leaves out Schenectady......

How about Newburg, NY, much changed. (Once Stewart AFB)

Much further East and a bit North. This airfield now has also has a different name today. In a City near by they once had a tea party.

It "couldn't" be Bedford Airport / Hanscom AFB. I don't see MEW Hill, which was leveled many years after 1946. Much of the field is in Lincoln, Mass.

M-ONGO 18th Dec 2011 18:31

KPVD? Providence, RI?

Well according to the source of the photograph it is reported to be Bedford Army Air Base 1946. However looking at a photograph taken in 1984 of Hanscom AFB which it became there seems little resemblance in the layout of runways. It looks as though my source has given it the wrong identification. Moral of the story "Double check one's source"
I apologise if I have caused confusion.

Seacue has control.

I "thought" I used Hanscom as a mystery airport some time ago. The picture at that time was taken in 1952 by me from a B-25. But I can't find it in the list, has my mind really failed?

Here is another VERY easy challenge. What airport?

Here is a 1952 photo of Hanscom Field. I'm sure of the location, because that is where our plane was based and I took the picture.

Another of Hanscom in 1952. Flipped ......

seacue 18th Dec 2011 21:46

Yes evansb, you are absolutely correct about KSJU.

You have control.

Krakatoa 19th Dec 2011 04:14

Still a bit high on the glide path Hoskins.

seacue 19th Dec 2011 06:19

The best match I can find is KFNL, Ft Collins - Loveland, CO.

evansb 19th Dec 2011 07:03

Not Ft. Collins/Loveland, but the state is correct.

seacue 19th Dec 2011 10:24

Next guess is Burlington, CO, KITR, but it seems too far out on the plains.

Edited even later: Is that Pike's Peak???
