Looks Mediterranean,near coast,Portugal or Spain...?

dook 18th Sep 2019 09:52

Certainly Mediterranean and coastal, but you need to go east.

chevvron 18th Sep 2019 10:43

Near Barcelona?

dook 18th Sep 2019 10:58

Go east to the land of islands.

Expatrick 18th Sep 2019 11:31

Ignorant newbie here - but love this thread!

Couldn't resist a punt -

Hal Far, Málta?

dook 18th Sep 2019 11:49

Hello Expatrick.

That's one island - I suggested the land of islands. I also suggested think sport.

Marathon - where the Olympic Rowing & Canoeing centre now is?

dook 18th Sep 2019 12:14

Strike ! Marathon it is.

Over to you. :)

Ah thanks! I shall. I thought of Hal Far because the surviving runway is (or was) used a a drag racing strip! I shall try again!

dook 18th Sep 2019 12:15

As above, nvubu cracked the sport.

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 12:39

Thanks dook. The Athens Olympics - lots of the venues used once and not since - check the hockey pitches (my sport) at the old airport on GE over time. What a complete waste.

And for the next aerodrome

dook 18th Sep 2019 12:47

Lossa sky.

Do I see French biplanes ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 12:53

Helpfully, the name of the airfield was printed in large letters just below the hangars, so I had to cut them out :)

They may well be French, but more likely another nationality.

dook 18th Sep 2019 13:04

Might they be American in France, as in expeditionary ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 13:26

That they would.

here's some more sky:

dook 18th Sep 2019 13:56

Parois maybe ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 14:01

This aerodrome is not at Parois. It is no longer an airfield, and hasn't been for a while.

Here are some aeroplanes (and sky)

dook 18th Sep 2019 14:10

This might be a long tour !

Methinks it was a temporary field.

Bicqueley ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 14:34

Not Bicqueley and it wasn't a temporary field, used in both wars.

You'll like this picture :ok:.

There is a aerial composite of the local town on the wall of this trailer :)
https://nenz0g.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none

Too small? click here for a larger version. (I've blanked the name of the town out).

dook 18th Sep 2019 14:40

Did you say I'd like it ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 14:49

Due to the photo on the wall.

dook 18th Sep 2019 14:51

That's what I assumed. :uhoh:

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 15:11

Airfield is just off the bottom of the picture on the wall - and I'd say the North as at the bottom of the picture.

dook 18th Sep 2019 15:33

Strange therefore that the north arrow is the other wat round. Perhaps that's the direction of the intelligence caravan.

Are we near Tours ?

dook 18th Sep 2019 17:58

If it was used in both wars might it be Toul-Croix De Metz ?

nvubu 18th Sep 2019 18:30

Well found, you have it with Toul-Croix De Metz.

Comparing the image with GE, the left hand side looks more like the eastern side of the town, and aren't those railways criss-crossing at the bottom of the picture - which are to the north of the town?

This chap was also stationed here.

Thank you - it did turn out to be quite a tour.

I am not sure of the caravan photo orientation to be honest.

I think I am the only player here who can devote a lot of time to the challenges.

I have no wish to be thought of as a hog and therefore feel it's appropriate to call OH.

You're not a hog; you've refreshed a thread that had got a bit stale.

dook 18th Sep 2019 20:17

Very gentlemanly of you to say so. Thank you.

However, an odd PM recently leads me to think that my presence here is not always appreciated.

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 09:01

Start looking for this spot. Language appreciation may help.

jensdad 19th Sep 2019 18:54

Hi JENKs, Got to be USA surely?

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 19:26

Indeed it is. GBS or Oscar Wilde defined the language situation, cannot be pinned down.

jensdad 19th Sep 2019 19:55

Hmmm. Louisiana?

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 19:59

Not Louisiana. Certainly a state with a long history, and one which had an unwitting role in relatively recent events. Think words, think language.

sycamore 19th Sep 2019 20:40

Cajun...? filet gumbo,on the bayou....?

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 20:59

No, but words open up a route.

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 21:25

And looking South, if the other view failed to cut it for you.....

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 21:46

Now, bedtime. The state? The Catholics liked it, and Warby flew it.

Self loading bear 19th Sep 2019 22:26

Freeway airport in Maryland
I regret OH (if correct)

JENKINS 19th Sep 2019 22:37

Yes, not in bed yet. Freeway, not a word used in the English language, but certainly used in the American language, and perhaps a reasonable word to describe that main road. No doubt that will change. There was unwitting relevance here 17 years ago.

The future is not Orange, it seems, since OH declared.
