Another four-engined transport, nowhere near Okinawa.

Hmmm...
RAF Hastings in some distant outpost of the British Empire.
Malaysian peninsula perhaps?

Heathrow Harry 28th Dec 2017 07:59

Doubt it - looks like snow on the ground......

Heathrow Harry 28th Dec 2017 08:06

I think it 's British Columbia - maybe Peace River/Fort St John????

TheChitterneFlyer 28th Dec 2017 10:41

Described as being the best three-engined aeroplane ever built!

Heathrow Harry 28th Dec 2017 10:47

I have a feeling it was used for testing heavy aircraft at one point - might be wrong.......

India Four Two 28th Dec 2017 15:52

Fort St. John, BC.

The photo is dated 1948, which is the year the Hastings went into service, so maybe this one was in Canada for cold weather trials.

Harry has the con.

Heathrow Harry 28th Dec 2017 15:56

I came across it when I was checking out your Edmonton Namao challenge so it looked awfully familiar....

Somewhere warmer this time

Alicante ?

Heathrow Harry 28th Dec 2017 17:09

No - but near the Med

nvubu 28th Dec 2017 19:59

Hmmmm... what do you classify as the Med :)

Looking on both Google & Bing Maps - I can see that the "Med" how I thought of it is actually made up of a number of seas - of which the Mediterranean Sea is but one part - the biggest part.
  • Alboran Sea
  • Balearic Sea
  • Sea of Sardinia
  • Ligurian Sea
  • Tyrrhenian Sea
  • Ionian Sea
  • Adriatic Sea
  • Aegean Sea
  • Thracian Sea
  • Sea of Crete
  • Mediterranean Sea
So do you mean the "Med" as a whole?
Or just the "Med" part of the "Med"?

jensdad 28th Dec 2017 23:54

The large stand number (if that's what's on the notice) and the lack of nose-in parking makes me think it's a low-cost terminal at a large airport. Could it be Marseilles? I seem to remember that they built a terminal for Ryanair and maybe other loco carriers a few years ago and there was a load of controversy when Ryanair pulled out shortly afterwards.

Heathrow Harry 29th Dec 2017 07:51

Nvubu - the "Med" so you don't get it in 10 minutes!!:cool:

Jensdad is on the right lines - large airport but really only a LOCO destination - not Marseille

Also military use

chevvron 29th Dec 2017 07:58

How about Pisa?

Heathrow Harry 29th Dec 2017 08:00

Right country - but I think we've had Pisa twice al;ready in 2017...... as you can see - definitely LOCO

chevvron 29th Dec 2017 08:06

Cagliari then?

Heathrow Harry 29th Dec 2017 08:38

Still in the correct country but not Sardinia................

I must admit if I hadn't been there it would have passed me by but it's a lot bigger than I expected

golfbananajam 29th Dec 2017 09:31

Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani–Birgi (IATA: TPS, ICAO: LICT) on Sicily

Heathrow Harry 29th Dec 2017 12:33

Correct!! Over to golfbj

Big place at the extreme west end of Sicily - lots of military activity - Typhoons and AW 139's based there and regular NATO AWACS visitors

HH - That doesn't look like Trapani :(
