No, despite that length. The highest bomber number was 32, although that did not dominate the field.
Might it be WW2 era when built ?
Yes, right at the end.
B-36 Peacemaker.....
Fort Worth joint base ?
edit - err no. |
Not Fort Worth, and 32 was the highest bomber number Sycamore. Even then, the 32 number was a mere 10 per cent of other bomber numbers. Take another look at my registration, it will lead to the Interweb. Perhaps a little help from your friends?
Spence Air Base Georgia ?
Not Georgia.
Walnut Ridge ?
Spot on. WW2 junkyard, that is how I found it. B32 Dominator, late entrant. Many years ago the four members of a popular beat combo from England landed here in their travels, and Walnut Ridge continues to hold a Beatles festival each year, John, Paul, George, and Ringo, providing another entree to the field.
All yours. |

Looks like another S pacific hell-hole - maybe in PNG?
PNG it is......
It might be Mokmer near Biak?
Good morning Asturias.
Unfortunately not. This airfield no longer exists |
I think we're going to need another clue....................
Coming up.....
Built by the Australians and captured by the Japanese in 1942. The aeroplane is Japanese. More clues if required. |
Vunakanau on East New Britain? OH if correct.
It is indeed Vunakanau chimbu.
Bad luck Asturias. chimbu has called OH. |
Ok - I thought it might be Aitape..................... no airfield there anymore either
Let's try this one https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5d84fa2fe3.jpg |
I can just make out the serial number under the wing. Looking...
I have found your photo uncropped but the site doesn't say where it is. :{ |
MG751.
One site says it is Blackbushe and another Fontanarossa. |
Curses!! I knew I shouldn't have put that one in first... Fontanerosa it is ... quite an interesting history... Over to Dook - I'm going to have to find something seriously

RAF Kallang ,S`Pore......OH if correct
Good afternoon sycamore.
Close but no cigar. |
Seletar?....
I thought you would get this Ken.
Seletar it is. Your watch. |
dook, thanks. Back in the 60s my Flt Cdr on 1 Sqn (sadly recently departed this world) had started his fighter career on the Hornet in FEAF. A tenuous connection, I know.
Standby for the next |
Are there any Harriers behind the camera ? ;)
No - they are off to the left!
I did a display where I think it is with a Jaguar in 1984 and yes - the groundcrew did leave a saucer of milk in front of the nosewheel !
Let's see if anyone else knows it. |
Is that a 1 Squadron line-up?
Yes. All are types the Sqn had flown - even the Harvard, from the slightly less than glorious days as Fighter Command's instrument training squadron.
I've flown one of them. :)
lets punt on RAF Wittering? If I'm a winner OH as I'm travelling tomorrow
Your punt is correct. It was a 1 Sqn open day in 1971, fairly early days for the Harrier.
Asturias has declared OH |
