Thar be gliders :ok:

Not sure whether it is for D-Day or Market Garden though.

dook 13th Feb 2019 17:50

D-Day...……...

jensdad 13th Feb 2019 17:58

That looks like a UK airfield. Could it be the 09 threshold (pre-extension) at Lulsgate?

ea200 13th Feb 2019 18:04

I'll take a stab at Tarrant Rushton.

dook 13th Feb 2019 18:25

ea200 takes the biscuit with Tarrant Rushton.

ea200 13th Feb 2019 22:41

Thanks dook. Nothing to hand and off to bed so OH.

After some of the great images recently, you might like a breather with this one.

nvubu 14th Feb 2019 07:53

Doesn't look UK, but the square by the control tower reminds me of UK, so I'd go for Commonwealth country - one of Australia, Canada, New Zealand or South Africa?

kaikohe76 14th Feb 2019 08:46

Yes nvubu, you are in the correct ball park with your idea. Cheers.

dook 14th Feb 2019 08:50

Good thinking nvubu.

I'll start with Australia.

kaikohe76 14th Feb 2019 09:00

It`s not Auz Dook, but your on the right track.

dook 14th Feb 2019 09:05

Good pointer.

NZ ?

chimbu warrior 14th Feb 2019 09:11

How about Whenuapai (NZWP)?

kaikohe76 14th Feb 2019 09:29

It is NZ Dook. It`s not Whenuapai chimbu warrior, but I can well see why you might suggest it.
It`s getting a bit dark in my part of the Commonwealth now Gents, so bed time it is until 1900 or so. If anyone gets it right before then, rather than delay any more image posts, if you are all happy, you might like to continue on.

dook 14th Feb 2019 09:33

I have just searched "new Zealand old airports aerial" and on the second line down is an aerial view of Old Canterbury Harewood.

nvubu 14th Feb 2019 11:40

Looks bang on dook - there's a blog spot page showing the changes over time. (this website doesn't allow a link to blog spot or even the full word entered :( )

dook 14th Feb 2019 13:52

Is anyone else happy that Harewood is correct ?

ea200 14th Feb 2019 14:44

Well I am. Found a picture!

dook 14th Feb 2019 14:46

Well that's two of you - thank you.

Standby please.

Ball rolling again.

Operation Manna?

dook 14th Feb 2019 15:31

No - some time in 1946.

nvubu 14th Feb 2019 16:17

I am fairly certain I've seen it before somewhere - might even have it on my PC at home, but can't check until 9pm.

Have you been editing out registration numbers :)

Cows getting bigger 14th Feb 2019 16:28

I want to say that looks like Aries which left RAF Shawbury in 1944. Couple of years out though. Hmmm.

dook 14th Feb 2019 16:45

nvubu.

Registration numbers would have helped to give the game away.

They are only partially visible in the original photograph and both begin with G. :)

Asturias56 14th Feb 2019 17:02

Netherlands??

dook 14th Feb 2019 17:09

UK...……...

A large scotch for our Dutch friend please.

Heathrow it is. :D

dook 14th Feb 2019 18:37

I think you have already cropped the original quite a lot.

I see water at top left so are we on an island ?

Self loading bear 14th Feb 2019 18:51

Mediterranean Coast
indeed

dook 14th Feb 2019 19:13

Does that mean an island near or on a Mediterranean coast ?

edit: Rhodes ?

sycamore 14th Feb 2019 20:05

Should`ve gone to `Specsavers`....

Self loading bear 14th Feb 2019 20:19

Not an island It featured (very short) in a novel of Phillip Kerr.
But he has the date wrong as it was probably not yet realised in 1957.

dook 14th Feb 2019 20:23

Is the reference to Specsavers meant for me ?

If so I have clearly missed something.

dook 14th Feb 2019 20:36

The only novel that I can find which might fit the clues is Greeks Bearing Gifts
