Would that be the mighty Mississippi top left?

Lightning Mate 13th Jun 2013 09:10

Google Earth.....

TheiC 13th Jun 2013 18:48

...or in (American) English:

Decatur, Illinois.

Lightning Mate 14th Jun 2013 06:33

Well, I gave you the lat & long in the image. ;)

TheiC 14th Jun 2013 06:58

You didn't name the aerodrome; I simply saved everyone else the bother of looking it up.

evansb 15th Jun 2013 01:19

TheiC is correct.:ok: Decatur, Ill. You have control.

TheiC 15th Jun 2013 09:03

I seem to recall that I posted this one previously but then immediately withdrew it (and deleted the image) following a question about its historical significance... I'm now satisfied it is a historically significant aerodrome...

Obviously an area with high rainfall due to the colour of the grass and the drainage ditch, so I'll start with.......

Is it in the UK?

Dave

TheiC 15th Jun 2013 09:58

Hello Dave,

No, this is not a UK aerodrome.

nacluv 15th Jun 2013 16:58

The Stop sign suggests North America.

TheChitterneFlyer 15th Jun 2013 21:37

Wasn't this previously posted as a race circuit?

TheiC 16th Jun 2013 00:13

Wasn't this previously posted as a race circuit?
I'm afraid not.

TheiC 16th Jun 2013 07:07

...and regardless of how suggestive the stop sign might be, this aerodrome is not in North America.

albatross 16th Jun 2013 07:55

Africa? Rings a bell somehow.

Airclues 16th Jun 2013 07:56

Somewhere in the Caribbean?

TheiC 16th Jun 2013 12:55

Not Africa, albatross.

Airclues? Airclued-up, I reckon...

TheChitterneFlyer 16th Jun 2013 13:32

Might it be Gerald's Airport, Montserrat?

TheiC 16th Jun 2013 13:35

TCF, indeed it WAS Gerald's, now John A Osborne... I'd hoped it might be more challenging, and was very pleased when Airclues was led slightly astray with a photo taken in deliberately atypical conditions. Its historical significance is that it was built to replace the previous airport, on the east coast of the island, after the volcanic eruptions which caused so much devastation in 1997. Google earth shows the north-western tip of the previous airport's runway.

TCF has control!

TheChitterneFlyer 16th Jun 2013 14:05

TheiC, I recall your previous posting of this particular image and I'd then turned my attentions to a different post in "Jet Blast/Where on Earth"... which turned out to be a private racetrack! Hence my previous question!

It took me a little while to find your latest post, but it was AirClues who directed me to the right side of the planet.

By the way, what was the historic connection? Was it the big bang that closed the previous airport?

Open House

You'd posted the connection after I'd hit the send button! Many thanks.
