Sorry not Oahu.

Duckbutt 23rd Sep 2012 14:10

Understand the logic of the two previous suggestions but the pic was not taken in late 1941 or in 1942.

Are those Japanese flying boats?

Duckbutt 23rd Sep 2012 16:26

Cannot personally put a name to the aircraft types but they are highly unlikely to be Japanese.

evansb 23rd Sep 2012 20:28

Marignane, France ?

Duckbutt 23rd Sep 2012 21:45

No, but a lot, lot warmer.

Duckbutt 23rd Sep 2012 22:18

Regarding the aircraft type, further research would indicate (I put it no stronger) that the most visible machine is likely to be a Martin Marlin.

I hope I do not get a barrage of abuse if I'm wrong.

I think the flying boat is a Nord 1401 Noroit. The location is the flood damaged French Naval base at Frejus-St.Raphael. On December 2nd, 1959, the Malpasset dam burst causing wide-spread flooding, which included the water aerodrome pictured.

Duckbutt 24th Sep 2012 07:27

I bow to you in regard to the aircraft type. Your identification of Frejus-St Raphael after the dam burst (barrage - geddit?) is entirely correct and you have control.

Thank you. An absolutely superb challenge! Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

Pisa,Italy.

evansb 24th Sep 2012 10:12

Yes, you are correct. I too, have suspicions you may be a hacker. You have control.

sabredog 24th Sep 2012 11:58

Many thanks,Brian. for your kind words. P.M. for you.
Open House,as it is not really worth the angst and puerile comments.

evansb 24th Sep 2012 17:26

You are too fast for us mere mortals. You must be a savant. You seldom, if ever ask questions, and rarely express any doubt about your answers. You dominate the thread in this category. Take it as a complement. I am in awe if you are real. So there!

North Africa ?

aerobelly 24th Sep 2012 21:01

Well, have to try the obvious one first. Cairo?

one11 24th Sep 2012 21:44

Not Cairo or anywhere else in North Africa

twochai 25th Sep 2012 01:53

West Africa, perhaps?

one11 25th Sep 2012 06:51

It is West Africa
