Thanks flyingwing. I think the "large building" is just the way a field is aligned in the photo.

Here's the next challenge; not a difficult one.

Akron Fulton, Ohio

Funny that you challenge contains an airship hangar (airdock), as the "building" in the previous challenge made me think it was one.

Russell Gulch 6th Oct 2010 13:36

Correct, RegDep. As expected, it didn't take long.

As you say, the hangar is the blimp airdock built I think in 1929. It was back then the world’s largest structure without interior supports. Originally built by Goodyear, it is now owned by Lockheed Martin.

You have the con.

Russell

Ref the earlier picture of Skeabrae.

chevvron I did post RNAS Twatt (HMS Tern) as a guess. Realised it was wrong so deleted the post. Sorry for any confusion.

Davis Monthan AFB?

evansb 6th Oct 2010 23:21

Moorabbin Airport, Australia ?

Tacklebury 7th Oct 2010 08:27

evansb.

Correct !!

Moorabbin, Harry Hawker Airport, Melbourne Australia was opened in December 1949.

It was named after Harry George Hawker MBE, AFC, (22 January 1889 – 12 July 1921) who was an Australian aviation pioneer and co-founder of Hawker Aircraft, the firm that would later be responsible for a long series of successful military aircraft, including the Fury, Sea Fury, Hurricane, Hunter and Harrier.

Hawker was born in Moorabbin, Victoria, Australia

He was killed on 12 July 1921 when the Nieuport Goshawk crashed while he was climbing out from Hendon Aerodrome while practicing for an airshow.

Moorabbin is now the 3rd busiest airport, by aircraft movements, in Australia.

Over to you.

Mr Grubby is correct. The Britannia was on a promo visit to Prince George. You have control.

twochai 8th Oct 2010 00:18

The Britannia was on a promo visit to Prince George.

Why all the water around the place?? Don't tell me they did fire engine welcome washes for new aircraft aircraft arrivals in those days??

The Proteus's would probably have choked up with ice, even in that nice spring weather!

Mr_Grubby 8th Oct 2010 07:09

Thanks Bri.

Now I'm going to be busy with family issues for the next few days so Open House.

Clint.
