Which Aerodrome Mk II
Welcome to the MK II stage of the "Which Aerodrome ?" thread originated by seacue. I understand that "Which Aerodrome? MK I" has became too large and unwieldy a file and had to be "ppruned". MK II is a continuation of MK I and will continue as it's predecessor did.
A list of all identified aerodromes from MK I is posted at the sticky "What Cockpit and What Aerodrome latest Lists". Future Aerodromes posted in What Aerodrome MkII will be added to the current list Anyone needing to refer to "Which Aerodrome MK I" will find it in it's place of honored retirement here: http://www.pprune.org/aviation-histo...drome-290.html This is current challenge posted by brakedwell:- http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...james/1958.jpg |

Is it El Adem? DH |
I am afraid not MReyn24050.
|
RAF Tengah, Singapore Mid 50s ?
|
OBP - too far east!
|
Rashid, Iraq?
(Camouflaged Vampires with fin flash and a line of Furies behind the Meteor) |
Rayak, Lebanon.
Ciarain. |
KK & XV 277 - Not Rayak or Rashid, but you are in the right region.
XV 277, you must have brilliant eyesight! |
Shaibah, Iraq? It has a hangar similar to that and at one time the airfield was outside the base, hence the wall and gate
|
Not Shaibah topgas
|
Sorry, I think you closed it whilst I was typing my guess. Or perhaps I just wasn't paying attention?
Anyway, what about RAF Khormaksar Aden? DH |
Well done Jenkins - Habbaniya it is. Taken on April 12th 1958 from the flight deck of Hastings TG523.
You have control. |
Could it be Amman ?
|
OK JENKINS, I have a few more in the box. This one is a bit of a googlie.

Indian AF Dassault Mystere IVA?
What appears below suggests "ein schwindel" ! Ciarain. |
OK, BD - I'll open the bidding at Macrihanish. The topography and colour make me think of Scotland, and I am deliberately ignoring the Mystere?? as I think that is the googlie...
|
Looks more like Paphos to me.
|
Is it Istres AFB?
|
I am afraid everyone is wrong, apart from identifying the aircraft as a Mystere!
|
No clues?
Kalaikunda. Ciarain. |
The Mystere does not belong to the Indian Air Force and the Airfield is not in France.
|
As Honduras bought some of these aircraft let's try La Ceiba?
|
Wrong continent. Think club med!
|
So a French AF Mystere? Which would probably make it either Tunisia or Algeria - Tafraoui?
|
Good logic spok, wrong answer I am afraid.
|
Nicosia, Cyprus ?
|
evansb well done. RAF Nicosia it is. You have control.
|
Thank you. Do you know when the Nicosia photo was taken? Here is the next aerodrome challenge:

Woodford ??
C. |
Thank you. Do you know when the Nicosia photo was taken? |
Sorry, Mr Gubby, not Woodford.
|
RAAF Williams Point Cook Base?
DH |
The RAAF combined the administration of Point Cook and Laverton aerodromes to become RAAF Williams. The photo is of RAAF Laverton, VIC, Australia, (just SW of Melbourne).
DH has control. |
Thanks evansb.
Off to work early in the morning & nothing readily to hand so open house.... DH |

Obviously all you Brits are in bed. So I'm throwing this one in. |

It's gone very quiet. Perhaps a few clues are in order. The Aircraft above is G-BDZX, the year 1987. A Flight Plan was required to go there. I just looked at google earth and it really looks much the same now.:ugh: |
How about Lydd?
|
Sorry not Lydd, but it is on the coast.
|
How about Bradwell Bay, Essex?
|
I dont think its UK.......France?
