B for Berlin?
|
Looks oriental to me too. Peking?
|
African Colonial - Leopoldville/kinshassa in Belgian Congo as it was then?
|
Singapore ?
In the '30's ? |
OK, then I'll throw in Varna, Bulgaria just for the kicks of it, assuming that the car left has license plate
в-б-37 (V-B-37 in latin alphabet) |
OK. Now we're getting somewhere.
chevvron, you need a bigger screen :-) Oriental, yes. RegDep, not Europe, but you've probably figured that out now. Double Hydco, not Peking. sid, Africa no, colonial yes. Mr. G, not Singapore but 30s, yes |
India, would you call ex-Soviet-no-Russian also "colonial". Question about fact, not politics :) and only in the context at hand.
|
The licence plates might be Dutch, no? The architecture looks to be Indonesian, perhaps.
An un-scientific WAG - say, Batavia in the thirties?? |
twochai,
Sometimes WAGs are spot on. Tjililitan Airport in Batavia/Djakarta in the 1930s. Subsequently renamed Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP), it continued as Jakarta's International Airport until 1985 when Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) opened. Still operational but I think the wonderful terminal building is long gone. I presume the B on the license plate is for Batavia and it is still used today. You have control. Edited to add that Halim was where BA9, the Galunggung Glider landed, after its ash encounter. |
Last time I drove by Halim it was the usual Indonesian graveyard for old British airplanes: an ex-Air Canada Vanguard in Merpati colours and an abandoned Viscount, amongst others. The crew of BA9 would have felt quite at home.
Sorry, have to go back to my day job, so... OPEN HOUSE |
Ok, I'll give it try here
http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne/olddays.jpg The building was (and still is) of some architectural importance. In those days, the building was almost larger than the airfield itself. And the airfield never got much bigger.... (picture is taken from the landside) |
and this one from the airside. Terminal building still in use, only moderately upgraded since this picture was taken almost 80 years ago

Ok, enough buildings...
that's the rwy (I know, a bit blurred to keep the numbers hidden) Looks a bit like an aircraft carrier, especially to the drivers that had to put their 737-200's down on a daily basis, long time ago... http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne/PPR_rwy.jpg |
and that's the whole airfield (with a clear view on the road blocking the soon to be required overrun safety aera) :*http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/a...R_airfield.jpg

Antwerp Deurne. As you say, the Sabena 737 departures were entertaining!
Open house if correct. |
Spot on, Max Tow:D
And here's the proof, the same buiding with the 1930's tower becoming the Met Office with a new tower on top, about half a century ago. And a decade ago, again a new tower was put on the old one http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/a...ne/PPR0003.jpg Open house, it is !! |
Great photos DIBO. Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

Is it Atlantis?
Dave Edit; Photo doesn't show on my PC (hence my wild guess). However, when I use my MacBook I can see the photo. Is anyone else having this problem or should I just ditch the PC? |
Before the flood? Sorry, not Atlantis. Not Greece, ancient or otherwise. The site still has aviation activity. The photo was taken in 1957.
|
WAG- Detroit City airport?
