Sometimes WAGs are spot on.

Tjililitan Airport in Batavia/Djakarta in the 1930s. Subsequently renamed Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP), it continued as Jakarta's International Airport until 1985 when Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) opened. Still operational but I think the wonderful terminal building is long gone.

I presume the B on the license plate is for Batavia and it is still used today.

Edited to add that Halim was where BA9, the Galunggung Glider landed, after its ash encounter.

Last time I drove by Halim it was the usual Indonesian graveyard for old British airplanes: an ex-Air Canada Vanguard in Merpati colours and an abandoned Viscount, amongst others. The crew of BA9 would have felt quite at home.

The building was (and still is) of some architectural importance. In those days, the building was almost larger than the airfield itself. And the airfield never got much bigger.... (picture is taken from the landside)

And here's the proof, the same buiding with the 1930's tower becoming the Met Office with a new tower on top, about half a century ago. And a decade ago, again a new tower was put on the old one

Before the flood? Sorry, not Atlantis. Not Greece, ancient or otherwise. The site still has aviation activity. The photo was taken in 1957.
