MReyn24050 22nd Sep 2011 11:42

Not from France either.

skytrain10 22nd Sep 2011 11:58

German Mel....Dornier Do.P or Do.23?

MReyn24050 22nd Sep 2011 12:52

Right country Ken, but wrong manufacturer.

Spit161 22nd Sep 2011 15:40

Junkers Ju 288?

cheers,
Jake.

skytrain10 22nd Sep 2011 16:01

Try something a little earlier....DFW R.I?

MReyn24050 22nd Sep 2011 17:32

Ken has the correct era. However this aircraft was not multi-engined.

skytrain10 22nd Sep 2011 17:40

Mmm, how about the Linke-Hoffmann R.II?

MReyn24050 22nd Sep 2011 17:49

Not the Linke-Hoffmann R.II, although that had a single propeller it also had four 252 hp (188 kW) Mercedes D.IVa engines ,arranged in pairs in the central fuselage and drove the propeller through clutches, shafts and gearboxes.
This aircraft not a large aircraft. It was a special type of bomber with a crew of two.

skytrain10 22nd Sep 2011 19:04

Had assumed large in view of its apparent elevation in respect of the building in the photo as well as the width of the cockpit. Would this be a seaplane, a torpedo bomber?

Noyade 22nd Sep 2011 22:25

Fascinating challenge Mel. It looks so big! :)

OK...

German.
Bomber.
Crew or 2.
WW1.
Single engine.

Nose compartment for gunner/navigator so no engine at the front?

special type of bomber
In appearance/layout or purpose?

I was thinking of the L.F.G. Roland G.1....? With one buried engine driving two pusher props, it is kinda special. :)

MReyn24050 22nd Sep 2011 23:14

German.
Bomber.
Crew or 2.
WW1.
Single engine and not a Roland.

That is correct. Ken and Graeme have stated that the aircraft looks big. She was not that big and she was not a seaplane but a flying boat over 100 built.

aviate1138 23rd Sep 2011 05:39

Another day another stab…….

Hansa Brandenburg CC perhaps?

skytrain10 23rd Sep 2011 07:59

Something from Oertz...the W4? Can't find any info on it, and not even sure if it could be described as a bomber, but you never know!

Have to admint can't really find much that satisfies the bomber criteria:ugh:

MReyn24050 23rd Sep 2011 09:42

It is certainly a Hansa Brandenburg aircraft but not the CC nor the W.4. It is in fact the Hansa Brandenburg W.13
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...denburgW13.jpg
From Wikipedia:-

The Hansa-Brandenburg W.13 was a flying boat bomber developed in Germany in 1917 and used by the Austro-Hungarian Navy during World War I. It was a largely conventional design for the time, with a single-step hull and an engine mounted pusher-fashion on struts in the interplane gap. The pilot and a gunner sat in tandem open cockpits at the bow.
The prototype of the W 13 was German design (Ernst Heinkel) and built, production aircraft were built under licence by the Austrian Government factory Oeffag and the Hungarian Government factory Ufag. Wiki describes it as a bomber in fact it only carried a small tactical bomb load.

The cockpit photograph was taken on board K.242.

Aviate1138 has control.

aviate1138 25th Sep 2011 06:29

Thanks Mel, a generous 'award' although the W 13 was going to be added but I just didn't have the time……..

Sorry about delay - family weddings - two and a birth has meant it has to be Open House.

I have a less cropped version if anyone needs it in a little while.

sycamore 25th Sep 2011 13:04

SF-260...?

Spit161 25th Sep 2011 13:11

Firefly?

cheers,
Jake.

Father Dick Byrne 25th Sep 2011 13:23

Yes, a Slingsby Firefly (T67).

Jake, we're in your hands.
