Apologies,Gentlemen. I should have provided a clue before this juncture.
SincoTC,it is an American built aircraft, and a parasol type.

Noyade 14th May 2011 12:09

Civil?

Blind stab....Inland S-300 Sport?

Noyade 14th May 2011 12:15

Military?

Blind stab....Boeing XP-15?

sabredog 14th May 2011 12:15

It is a civilian aircraft,Noyade, but not the S-300.
Apologies for the general quality of the photograph, but it is easily "Googled".

evansb 14th May 2011 18:49

It is the Nemeth Round Wing ?

sabredog 14th May 2011 19:49

No,Bri,not the Nemeth Round Wing.

sabredog 15th May 2011 09:55

Abject apologies,Gentlemen. The aircraft in question is a bi-plane.
The aircraft company responsible for it's design and manufacture came into being in 1919,and it was a very advanced concept for it's time.
Apologies once again, for the duff information.

Noyade 15th May 2011 10:36

a very advanced concept
A very fast aircraft? Say, 1920?

sabredog 15th May 2011 11:54

Not a fast aircraft,Noyade. The company closed in 1921,having spent $30,000 in developing and building the prototype. The company was reborn under a new name in 1926, and was to become a very famous name in aviation, initially producing a successful high-speed civilian monoplane, using the advanced methods of construction first used in this aircraft.

SincoTC 15th May 2011 14:34

Thanks for the new information sabredog :ok:

I reckon, that it has to be the Loughead S-1 Sport Biplane, with its folding wings and moulded plywood fuselage, its manufacturer, was of course the progenitor of Lockheed Aircraft Co

evansb 15th May 2011 14:37

Loughead/Lockheed S-1 Sports Biplane ?

sabredog 15th May 2011 15:20

Absolutely correct,Bri, but SincoTC just pipped you at the post by three minutes. The Vega was the high speed monoplane produced later.
Well done, and I again apologise for the earlier duff gen.
That is what happens when amateurs participate!

Quite a good looking machine for it's day.
