I don't know about Oxford, but could it be Canefield Airport on Dominica?
|
Not Canefield either.
This country consists of more than one island (in name as well as physically). |
Must be St Vincent and the Grenadines, but which island.
We've had Union, so not that. Seems too old for Bequia. How about Mustique? |
Must be St Vincent and the Grenadines Turks & Caicos St Kitts & Nevis Antigua & Barbuda Trinidad & Tobago It's in one of these! |
Ah ha!! Found that VERY picture.
Barbuda. |
Yes it is the "terminal" at Codrington. The town is named after Christopher Codrington, a former governor who left books to All Souls College, Oxford. to form the Codrington Library.
All yours. |
|
What, they don't have snow in the tropics? lucky blighters.
Is it Oslo? |
No, it's in the Western Hemisphere, the Americas.
|
Anchorage perhaps
|
My guess would be for somewhere just across the Berings strait from Alaska. Can't think what country it would be other than Siberia.
So, how about Providenya? BSD. |
Sorry not to be Keeping Up.
Much smaller than Anchorage but not TOO far away. Note that I said "Americas". |
Whoops!
Failed to spot America, will pay attention in future! BSD. |
The picture was taken upon the arrival of first jet service.
I have to be away from the computer for a while. I'll check back as often as possible. |
seacue's challenge
Wein Air Alaska Airlines B737 inaugural flight at Kotzebue Airport on 03/03/69 perhaps.
Mel |
Bingo! Mel has it.
Kotzebue is about 60 miles / 100 km north of the Arctic Circle and on a bay off the Bering Strait. A more-recent photo of the terminal. http://users.erols.com/rcarpen/airp99a.jpg Edited to add overall photo: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/OTZ-g.jpg Rwy 8-26 is asphalt, 17-35 is gravel. The baton is now in Mel's hands. |
Next Challenge
Thanks seacue. At first I thought it was an aircraft of Western Airlines but the tail logo was incorrect. Incidently I checked with the mods regarding when to start a new thread and the response was as I PM'd you.
Next challenge a bit further back in time than yours. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...ortquiz027.jpg |

A long shot. Lympne Airfield.
|
Mel,
I never thought I would be using my day-job skills in this forum, but the terrain in your second photo looks like typical "chalk country", which if I'm correct would narrow your airfield down to the following areas: East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cambs., Bedford., Bucks., Berks., Salisbury Plain, North Downs, South Downs. |
In desperation, how about Arbroath!
