May be, it was a little bit difficult. Here is another pic from the airport. The old apron was on the north side, upper side of the pic.
Sorry, if there are too many pixels http://member.file-upload.net/seneca/zsrrp.jpg |
Well that defo looks like Innsbruck to me.
|
Yes, it is Innsbruck. You have control.
|
A Bonus point for the date!
http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~jode.../Image0006.JPG |
Wild guess - could it be Renfrew?
Date - hmm mid 50s - but another wild guess is that the date might be a significant clue...... |
Not Renfrew but you are in the right decade.
|
Northolt?
plus an extra character |
Not Northolt.
The aircraft is seen arriving, having departed from Heathrow. |
1954, a Pionair at Schiphol?
|
Not Schiphol either - wrong country
|
Flap40's challenge
BEA Pioneer G-ALXK leaving Gatwick on the first flight from Gatwick after its re-opening by the Queen on the 9th June 1958.
Mel |
Mel has it. I agree that the caption on the photo had it as departing but I think it could be arriving. The engineer seems to be walking towards the aircraft which I find unusual if it was departing.
|
Next Challenge
Thanks for that Flap40. I tried a search on Google regarding this event and a reference came up stating that HM the Queen arrived for the opening ceremony in a DH Heron but when I tried to log on I discovered access was not possible due to either a fault or a problem with my firewall.
Here is the next challenge:- http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6...ortquiz020.jpg Mel |
Just on the basis of the Finnair Convair, is it Helsinki?
|
Mel's Challenge
Duckbutt. Not Helsinki,sorry.

Mel's Challenge

Domodedovo?
In the unlikely event this wild guess is right, it's open house, I'm away. |
Brussels - Belgium?
|
I note a couple of US C130s and is that also a C141 or C5 tail over on the left? So Russkies and US jobs - I'm wondering whether it's somewhere in central asia - eg one of the 'stans' - then again, it doesn't appear arid enough? Am I barking up the wrong tree??
|
LFT's challenge
I will stick my neck right out on this one and say Glasgow-Prestwick possibly.
|
The pic was taken 2 years ago and only 4 of the 6 identifiable aircraft are in flyable condition...
|
Dover Air Force Base??
If I,m right, what are the Russians doing there. Was it a State visit? |
Correct, it's Dover AFB (again, forgot I posted one a week or so ago), not sure if it was a State Visit though? Got a bit of a surprise when I saw these 4 sitting on the ramp I can tell you. Open House .

2005 World Summit:
http://www.kremlin.ru/eng/events/det...13_93729.shtml |
|
Sorry, just realised that the wrong person declared open house. If dixi188 posts one then I'll remove mine.
Clue 1; I last landed an aircraft here on 9th July 1970 (VC10 G-ARVL). Since then time has stood still (for the airport, not for me). The check-in desks, passport control and cafes are still as I remember them. The runways are intact. However there are no passengers to walk through these doors. Clue 2; The doors of this European airport were locked in 1974 |
Nicosia?
Open house if yes. |
Jerry is correct. Nicosia International Airport.
|
Have a go at this one:
