Late eighties, could be our friend XH558 at Farnborough?

Corsairoz 23rd Jan 2009 12:40

On reflection........... Finningley, now Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster.

There were Vulcans based there and keeping us awake when I visited as an ATC Cadet for a weeks camp, so many years ago.

....or Colerne.....

The Real Slim Shady 23rd Jan 2009 17:05

Corsairoz has it.

The Vulcan pic was taken during the airshow in the late 80s before it was retired from service and the Bulldog photo was taken in 1989 when the runway was being resurfaced.

The ATC vehicle was typical of Training Command airfields.

Corsairoz 23rd Jan 2009 22:51

I remember 3 Vulcans taking off in quick succession while I was at Finningley I think in the Easter of 1969.....I can still EXACTLY remember that sound......and I also rememebr the Vulcan ALMOST getting it very wrong on a low swoop over the car park into Greenham Common IAT.

I need a few hours to hunt tomorrow morning.

Corsairoz 24th Jan 2009 12:24

the ATC memories triggered my idea for Finningley. Here is the picture:

Corsairoz 24th Jan 2009 13:23

Not Wattisham. And it was not a visiting Aircraft either, so no tricks.

Captain Airclues 24th Jan 2009 13:37

Corsairoz 24th Jan 2009 14:04
