Not Freeport.

evansb 8th Aug 2007 18:49

Lynden Pindling International Airport, New Providence, Nassau, Bahamas

con-pilot 8th Aug 2007 18:49

Sigh, okay, let me try a few more brain cells, I know I've flown in and out of that place. I know I'm real close.

(And flown over it a lot more.)

Edited to add, that's the place, Evan's got it.

PaperTiger 8th Aug 2007 19:07

Indeed he has. You have control b.

And flown over it a lot more
Yes, indelibly etched. Nice sight after all that ocean - phew ;)

evansb 8th Aug 2007 19:25

Thanks PaperTiger, I truly enjoyed that challenge. Here is the next aerodrome:

PaperTiger 8th Aug 2007 20:45

:hmm: Not too far from the last one by the look of it.

Tiger_mate 8th Aug 2007 20:51

Frankfurt Rhein-Main?

Based upon a Pan Am DC4 and a neat line up of USAF? C54 in the background. Lack of airport detail means that it could be anywhere.

PaperTiger 8th Aug 2007 21:01

I thought they were all PAA planes in the photo. MAC scheme was similar though.

seacue 8th Aug 2007 21:08

Pardon me, but Nassau and the Bahamas are a significant distance from the Caribbean.......

evansb 8th Aug 2007 21:20

Yes, seacue, the geographic placement has been noted.
I sent PaperTiger a PM regarding just that.

Sorry, Tiger_Mate, the aerodrome is not in Germany.

PaperTiger 8th Aug 2007 21:26

Yes, seacue, the geographic placement has been noted.
Your dissent (both of you) has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities:
https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...k/geos/bf.html

I think it's the semantic difference between the Caribbean as a region and the actual Caribbean Sea, which as you rightly say ends at the South coast of Hispaniola. Not that 800 miles or so is really that far away, global-wise.

Tiger_mate 8th Aug 2007 21:27

Perhaps the DC4 under tow is brand new. Long beach California or Oklahoma, both of which had Douglas factories?

PaperTiger 8th Aug 2007 21:28

Doesn't explain the Convairs though.

Tiger_mate 8th Aug 2007 21:38

I guess not and they are PanAm also:

How many maintenance bases, and where for Pan Am

evansb 8th Aug 2007 21:40

It is not in Long Beach, or Oklahoma.

Tiger_mate 8th Aug 2007 21:43

It is Miami

Got there in the end!!

evansb 8th Aug 2007 21:51

Tiger_Mate is correct.:ok: It is Miami. One of the aircraft may be a PanAgra DC-6. You have control.

Tiger_mate 8th Aug 2007 21:53

This place is not always a sleepy hollow, in fact it has a healthy resident GA population, but they were all tucked up in bed on this winters morning.

ATC tower is centre right

Squadgy 8th Aug 2007 22:42

Fairly regular visitor to that one - Sleap.

If I'm right I'll throw it open as not near a PC tomorrow....

Tiger_mate 9th Aug 2007 05:51

The ex-wartime airfield at Sleap / Shropshire / UK it is. Many of the wartime dispersal circles still exist beneath an inch of earth/grass but can be seen with ease when in the rotary circuit.

Well done Squadgy:ok:
