Konduz Airport (OAUZ), northern Afghanistan?

NATOPotato 3rd Aug 2007 05:28

Yes, that was quick. Over to you.

Thanks NP, here is the next aerodrome: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ir640/3319.jpg

The SSK 3rd Aug 2007 15:55

Anchorage?

evansb 3rd Aug 2007 16:15

SSK is correct.:ok: Well done. You have control.

barry lloyd 3rd Aug 2007 17:33

By the way, is the huge bear (which was allgedly shot within the airport boundary), still there - in the terminal building I mean!

evansb 3rd Aug 2007 20:09

A large stuffed polar bear is still behind a glass display case at PANC, however polar bears do not inhabit the south coast of Alaska. Polar bears are found in the circumpolar arctic ice pack regions, well north of Anchorage.

barry lloyd 3rd Aug 2007 20:41

OK thanks. The last time I passed through PANC was about the time that photo was taken, and memory fades! I recalled it is being a brown bear, but perhaps its fur was getting a bit dirty!

If someone would like to post a photo of an aerodrome, now would be a good time.:)

Prestwick?
It looks like Dundonald Hill in the background.........

Squadgy 4th Aug 2007 19:25

Prestwick..............................

The SSK 4th Aug 2007 19:30

Sorry for leaving high and dry, thanks for filling my slot.

The most unloved 747 was the one that was blown up at Bruntingthorpe but I'm sure that's not the answer.

Tiger_mate 4th Aug 2007 20:07

Talkdown man has it. It is Prestwick with HMS Gannet visble in the background. It is the opposite side from the air terminal. I think that the 747 (freighter) had something the do with Polar Air, but I cannot confirm that as there are no visible markings. It has been there for years.

The Bruntingthorpe aeroplane probably served Aviation at large better than most despite its violent end. The Car Park was included as a bit of a Red Herring and I expected at least one 'Dunsfold' but it was not to be.

To those that have done well: WELL DONE:D

Talkdownman 5th Aug 2007 06:40

I had inserted a question mark so give it to Squadgy. Plus I don't know how to upload pictures! But I looked at that skyline from the tower many-a-time mid-sixties.
Go ahead Squadgy.

Squadgy 5th Aug 2007 08:07

Cheers Talkdownman - I recognised the blue buildings of Prestwick.
Here's the next one:

Manchester. 06R?

Squadgy 5th Aug 2007 10:02

Yes, that's right. Just remembered I used the same photo in another forum a while back :hmm:

Over to you again TDM

Talkdownman 5th Aug 2007 10:23

I can't do images. Throw it open.

Here's something slightly different, just a hint of airfield! Two clues: it was in southern England and, as you will gather from the past tense, it no longer exists. Identifying the aircraft might give a clue to a 1950s holidaymaker who enjoyed spotting aeroplanes...
