looks like elmdon to me

Or maybe Rothera
Sorry, not the West Midlands, nor Antarctica.
Williams Field, McMurdo? (er ---- No, not a clever guess, Antarctica already ruled out!)
Somewhere in remote Canada?!
Is it Alert?
Alert? Do you mean Alert, Nunavut, Canada? The most northerly inhabited settlement in the world?
Ahem..yes, indeed, spot on:ok: Phileas Fogg is correct. Well done. CFS (Canadian Forces Station) Alert, CYLT, Ellesmere Island, located at 82.28N 62.30W. You have control. P.S. I've found a thread on JET BLAST for my RANT:} |
Do not let it be said about Evansb that he is not a sensitive person...
All this time, I thought he was just living the good life out in the badlands enjoying the wildlife! |
Open House

Here's one that I don't see on the list:
http://s462.photobucket.com/albums/q...rd/th_air1.jpg Happy Christmas |
That's got to be Finningley - AKA 'Robin Hood Airport'.
Quite right Nacluv! Taken from the club 172 on departure. That was when you could still land there for a few bob - including ground services to/from terminal!
You have control. |
Ah - Finningley. Fond memories of the great airshows when I was a kid; the 3-hour Nav trip in a Dominie in the jump seat as a cadet with no (or very little) cabin pressurisation; and my second XJS bought from a 2nd-hand car dealer who set up shop in one of the old MT pool garages after it all closed down.
I bet the 172 felt a bit small/lonely in the middle of all that tarmac - you could have taken off between the piano keys and the peritrack! Going to have a quick look for something to post... |
A not very confident bid for Holmsley South (New Forest).
Not Holmsley South I'm afraid, flyingwing, but I can certainly see where you're coming from with that one.
twochai
Nope, you are correct, there are plenty of aLERTS and not enough aLoofs:ok:
It's not Warton is it?
No, not Warton. There is no water in the immediate vicinity.
Could it be Blackbush
Sorry Krakatoa - not Blackbushe.
All entrants thus far are on the correct lines in that it is in the UK. |
Bournemouth Hurn?
Farnborough? (nacluv has already said UK:})
(Could've sworn I'd seen an entry for Farnborough yesterday..... am I going blind, stupid, both or was it deleted?) Rgds AAO |
AfgAir may have it with Farnborough
Cottesmore?
(Could've sworn I'd seen an entry for Farnborough yesterday..... am I going blind, stupid, both or was it deleted?) |
But in this photo there is an unusually small triangle of grass between the 3 runways and whilst between Farnboro's 4 runways there are a couple of small triangles the runway directions do not seem to match this photo.
Carlisle is another possibility.
It is time to declare this thread as officially missing. We will send out the hounds at day-break.
If the hounds don't find nacluv, perhaps we should declare Speechless Two the winner and get on with the next challenge?

Well that lasted all of 17 minutes, the pub in the foreground brings back fond memories from the 1980's :)
Soddit has it. |
If memory serves the route was Skylark ( Clearbrook) - Royal Oak ( Meavy) - Leg O'Mutton ( in your picture) then Milton Combe. There's a similar route in Timisoara. Here is the next offering - I do not expect it to be unduly taxing.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...s/File0005.jpg Hopefully that will work... |
That was it, the Leg O'Mutton, there was also the George on the traffic lights by PLH airport, got snowed in at the airport one night so had to half hinch a crash wagon to drive across the airfield and jump over the fence to the George, the locals just laughed, they had seen the blue lights coming across the airfield and wondered what was happening :)
Just a quick post to apologise for going AWOL over the last few days. I thought I would have t'interweb access but things didn't go quite to plan. evansb et al were quite right to press on! For the record, my previous challenge was indeed Greenham Common, 1942-style.
I would hazard a guess that it is Fornebu.
Sorry Phileas - not Fornebu
I'm guessing here as much as Phileas, but trying to apply some narrowing down,
There's nothing up close enough for vegetation or cultural clues. The serrated ridge looks volcanic, and menacing! One wonders if this airport has perhaps since been relocated. The photo looks to be taken from an old transparency, so maybe 1960's vintage. Constrained airfield site, so perhaps an island or a small coastal state ringed by mountains? Carribean? |
What are those fag ends doing on the threshold ? Very strange place to stick an ashtray!
Sorry 'bout that couldn't resist:E |
