6 engines, tandem cockpit, B-47 Stratojet :D

And is the photo reversed, looking at the dials/throttles?

henry crun 9th Oct 2005 01:25

As far as I know it is not reversed, and that is another throttle lever just inboard of the other 6.

Tiger_mate 9th Oct 2005 07:43

It is a Stratojet co-pilot panel

:ooh: I've made model aeroplanes with more instruments than that.

Is that a gunsight?

V1 flying bomb - the test version of course.

or

Japanese flying bomb - the final version :ugh:

It is indeed a sight. Make a choice. BTW, max speed 525mph.

You'd have your toes curled around that rudder bar at 525mph I reckon.

BEagle 9th Oct 2005 15:24

Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka.

RJM 9th Oct 2005 15:38

Correct. That speed was observed in the dive to the target. :ooh:

BEagle 9th Oct 2005 16:14

................B-58 Hustler.

BEagle 9th Oct 2005 17:17

A B-45 with an 800 knot ASI?

Nope - 'tis indeed a B-58A Hustler.

Tiger_mate 9th Oct 2005 17:21

Check out this site:

and click on the B58 arrives in the UK link, for an interesting bit from Pathe news.

No time MJ. I'm off to the 'local' Sunday Night Brains Trust. You have control.

henry crun 9th Oct 2005 20:00

John Eacott and Tiger_mate were right.

That particular B47 was a test bed for the Iroquois engine that was to power the Avro Arrow, hence the 7th throttle.

I wondered if it was anything to do with RATO, or is RATO light the fires and all hell is let loose for a few seconds of uncontrolled thrust?

Tiger_mate 9th Oct 2005 21:16

Jet Provost??

henry crun 9th Oct 2005 21:27

Tiger_mate: Here is the rear end.

I would so like to fly in one of those. Sat in the airframe at Langford Lodge, and it is an office I could get very familiar with, along with a permanent smile :O

Thanks Henry, strange looking beasty

Tiger_mate 9th Oct 2005 22:04

If anybody else would like to set the bait fill your boots, otherwise I'll dig out something in the morning. Must be your turn John E
