Please observe the 24-hour rule (see below)
Update of the database up to 31-12-2023 can be found in Post 3731 page 187 06-01-2024
Here are some "rules" for Which Aerodrome. These are based upon the original suggestions from the very first thread, and have a few additions. Also please be patient as when you are active, others may be asleep.
  • A historic picture of an aerodrome will be posted.
Newer pictures are allowed but the theme here is to compare/contrast old with new as well as identifying aerodromes which no longer exist.
  • The person who correctly identifies it will be declared the 'winner' by the original poster.
  • That winner shall either post another challenge or declare the floor open (Open House). Anyone may then post the next challenge.
  • If the winner of the challenge does not respond within 48 hours, to the notification of their success, an Open house can be declared when there is consensus between multiple other posters which are on-line.
  • (if you in know in advance that you will not be able to follow up with an own challenge you can post your answer with "(Open House when proven correct)"
  • When the poster of a challenge does not respond within 48 hours of a posted answer, this poster can be declared winner if the answer is considered to be correct in a consensus of multiple other posters.
  • If Open House is declared, regular posters should not jump in immediately, but time should be given for those who are not great at naming the correct location as they may have some good images.
  • There will only be one challenge running at a time.
  • Try to use elderly photos and not too much Google Earth,Zoom Earth or any other online map pics.
  • Try to post images that are not already present on internet, as Google Image Search will find them if they are. Searching by using Google Image Search, or programs a-like, is ought not to be done.
  • Personal photos are acceptable as they show the aerodrome as it is now.
  • When confirming the correct location, the location and winner should be stated to negate any deletion of posts.
  • Please don't delete your posts, let everyone see your successes, failures and challenges.
  • Due to obsessive posters in the past, the web moderators have enforced the 24-hour rule:
Each challenge shall run at least 24-hours before a winner is declared by the original poster. This is to enable all Ppruners to search for the challenge and to contribute. · This is not a competition, no points are assigned to the winner. Please be careful when posting your answer early, especially when you intend to declare Open House. Much other Ppruners are put-off if the answer is already given and you still have to wait till the initial 24-hours are over anyway. Anyone can edit this Wiki post provided they have been member of Pprune for 90 days and have minimum 90 posts. But please let's get consensus before changing and not go crazy. Runway direction, hangers, general terrain, ski runs and even cracks in the runway look awfully like Elk Valley, BC?

He has and he posted it as a challenge in What Airfield 3 page 971 back in 2020

I remember it as I cracked it.

Oh now I’m sorry but I’m not going back to check every bloody challenge! It’s not often anyone gets me up in anything weighing less than 20 tons, but that was one occasion.

OK ea200, Sparwood Elk Valley it is and you have control.

Don't worry thnarg, it has happened before. In fact I think I may have done it myself. If you go to Post 1372 Page 69 you will find an Excell spreadsheet which has details of challenges posted on this thread. A search for the airfield name will show if it has appeared before. At least up until the last update which was about a year ago. With thanks to all those who have contributed to the maintenance of the spreadsheet.

Now this one:

The update I have kept up to February 23 but in February I encountered problems by attaching zip or Excel files to a message. Is only possible via URL and I do not want to use my employers Onedrive account. Christmas holidays are coming up. I will give it another try.
Anybody who feels like updating March-November-23 is welcome!

I'll do that Bear - i just noticed yesterday when I was checking for Elk Valley that we were falling behind again on the spreadsheet

Do you think tho that we should agree a time cutoff after which posters can revisit old airfields that have already featured years ago?

Thank you both very much for your hard work but maybe we don’t need to take this too seriously? I’ve been lurking on Pprune since the days of Danny but didn’t know it had spreadsheets as well as rumours!

ea200, I have definitely been there

We definitely do not have to take this seriously!!
Time cut-off not required, do not scare new entrants away!
Especially when someone has his own photographs or old photos which are not from the internet, then the challenge is most welcome!

The challenge looks like one of India42's infinite series of Canadian airstrips........................
Well, that was posted and correctly identified without me having seen it!

I don't think duplicates are a big problem.

Not me. ea200 currently has control, although if he doesn’t mind I’ll ride supernumerary with a lamp-post and shed…

Not sure that qualifies as a shed, but I do see this distinctive tower in the background.

Would you care to name it? Unless someone else wants to take a punt?

A busy place up until the mid-1990s, now no longer in use [but still there in this abandoned state]

My first thought was Florida or the US Gulf Coast but the trees seem to be more fir like. Enlarging the picture it looks like the word "PRIVAT" (might also be "POLISEI") is painted near to the camera - so Germany?
