The mystery aircraft was a one-off, but it was a landmark design, so it may not be in The Observers Book of Aircraft. It was probably in the 1950 edition of Jane's All The World's Aircraft.

Karlark is correct. The Texas A&M AG-1 was also known as the Weick AG-1, who went on to design the Piper Pawnee. As requested, it is OPEN HOUSE

David, I don't know what the aircraft is, but I swear that's the "Abominable Dr Phibes" at the controls....

The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) - IMDb

Possibly USA?

It's similar to the Skyray, but appears to have no longitudinal control surfaces.

What challenge?

Incidentally I think the wing leading edge droop on the F-5 seems to be less spanwise than in the silhouette.
