Looked at idiom to "put the boot in" and then thought what or how should I lick after that. Gives me creeps even to think about it .

There's only one thing which is morally acceptable to kick while on the ground... and it's the rudder...

My dear chap, please allow me to put you on the correct track.

When one is flying an aeroplane, one kicks nothing!!!

One uses the primary flying controls in order to smoothly and rapidly adjust the attitude / flight path of the flying machine.

You will have to trust me here, since I was an RAF 'A' category flying instructor.

If you "kick" anything at Mach 2, you will end up in very serious trouble - Old Boy.........

You must be very very good in bed with that attitude............

My, my, aren't you finicky today...
first poor buttrick, then me...

You have to excuse the improper wording, but it was necessary for the pun...
There was a vivid image from the documentary on AA587 flashing before my eyes while I was writing though...

...or a snap roll...

Taking it over the new page hump.
I got a telling off when i had a flight in a Jag, for trying to use co-ordinated rudder, fortunately only a little bit and no kicking involved. It was force of habit from my glider flying days. Apparently the rudder is quite powerful, enough to rip the fin off if given full deflection at high speed. Much like the Airbus over Queens, where the co-pilot was trying to keep the wings level with bootfuls of rudder.

Now I've looked I'm pretty certain it is. Will have to be Open House if correct.
