Hurn, while I agree with you comment:

Yes, if enough people honour their pledges then we'll get a flying Vulcan this year.
That has to be tempered with the fact that if Aerobytes and Judd Power had not donated one months finances, then the project would not have continued past today. Also if the pledged money is not forthcoming within that month it is my understanding that 558 could still be grounded.

Yes, that's how I see it, hence my 'touch wood' comment in the earlier post.

I see from the website that she's due to visit Woodford the w/e she displays at Southport. Will she be Woodford based on the Saturday night between show days, or is the Woodford visit entirely seperate to appearing at Southport?

Last time I heard from Andrew Edmondson, Engineering Manager, on the Scramble weekend, he mentioned that the airshow fee should be around the 7-8K per display, hopefully enuogh to cover the fuel.

Lets hope that all the airshow punters appreciate the vulcan enough to put their hands in pockets and pull out some money to show appreciation for the effort of the team to get her there - this year and in future years. I'm sure the club will be ever present with buckets / 45 gallon drums to fill.

In the projected income there is a sponsorship from VTSE of 250K.

if they are really skint as you say then that means another shortfall of another 250K.

so it looks to me like this.

1.8 Million needed.

1 million raised so far.

250K expected from airshow appearances.

leaving still a shortfall of 550K for the year.

just observations.

Geoff

The figures have been a little confusing to say the least, but heres how it goes, the amount needed was 1.6 millon, they had already identified a couple of hundred thousand leaving a shortfall of 850k, the pledge campaign had a target of 1m because on average 20% of pledges are not honard so the extra 150k is a safety net if you like so even though I'm only using approximate figures it does balance out.

Don't panic!!

It isn't quite so drastic as that, while it is correct that had Aerobytes and Judd not injected the cash the project would have folded the Cash will enable the wages for the coming month to be paid and allow the pledges to be called in giving them a cash flow for the coming months, the money pledged is to cover her for the year it wont all be needed in the first month things are a hell of a lot better than they were a week ago.

First off - Thanks to all those on here who pledged and donated much needed funds.

Secondly.. the result is a Vulcan Display at this years airshow venues.

Thirdly.. it just goes to show how the Vulcan is loved by its public.

Fourthly.. (Hopefully) - This is the beginning of a new future regarding 558 communication to the general public. Communication is the key to success.

Fithly.. Let's put aside the 'Vulcan bashing' - we are all here for one reason, the love of aircraft. Hopefully, what we have achieved in a few weeks - to get her back, was a formidable task at initial outset, but we overcame it - rallied together as a team, and managed to gain the success that 558 truly deserves.

Let us all build on this and learn from it.

On other fund raising ventures [TV'a'thons etc.] the pledged figure is usually exceeded by quite a margin. My pledge to help 558 stay airworthy was always made with a mental note that when asked to honour that amount I would actually double it. One or two others I have spoken to said they had had the same thought. I will await the final tally with interest.

Be nice to know how the money will be used. Transparency would silence the doubters - hopefully!

BubblesUK, thanks for the extra gen and as a long term member of the VTSC/Forum my panic level was no different to the rest, as for my last comment I quote this taken directly from the press release as this is why I wrote the response to Hurn:

Be warned: while it looks like the target will be met, if the pledges are not realised, then there will be no more lifelines - Vulcan XH558 will become a static museum-piece because the funds required to salvage the situation from that point would eclipse those required by the pledge campaign.
but then add this (applies to Judd Power as well):

However, we - Aerobytes - would not have invested this money unless we had a very realistic expectation of the pledge target being met (subject to continuing publicity) and the pledges being converted to cash.

I hate to be a partypooper but when I worked full-time in the marketing department of a large charity, we did a study of funds we received from London Marathon runners. Sadly only 10% of runners who declared themselves fundraisers for us in advance actually ever sent us any money...sorry...

It is a much much harder task to get people to put their hands in their pockets than it is to get them to pledge in the first place. I hope the guys succeed, but if I were in finance there I wouldn't bank on getting more than 50% max.

I suppose they can only go on their experience of last time round - evidently 80% is nomally average redeeemed on pledges but I think they actually exceeded that figure.

Nothing in todays Daily Mail, but I expect The Mail on Sunday will do a follow up tomorrow.
NOT that I read The Sun, my advisers tell me it features on page 6 today.

I hope the conversion from pledge to cash goes well and is managed smoothly.

I'm just chuffed that we will all be able to witness the sound of a proper British Jet again this season - well done to all those that chipped in to support the project.

I don't know much about the commercial operations of TVOC but from reading the forum here it seems a lot of you do! - can we expect a brighter future now in terms of management?

Or - is that the $64000 dollar question? (showing my age here)

As Deltapapa said on average 80% of pledges are honored and when pledges were called in after the 2006 campaign over 90% were honored.

Quite right TSM if that is what you want to believe, the only change though is the scramble will be done the other way around see if it can be done quicker , oh don't forget we will also not tell you anything untill it has been left to late .

Honestly though TSM, please give the club a chance, as they say Rome was not built in a day and there are still some that, like in all walks off life, talk the talk but do not deliver, also there are those that cannot grasp change and do not learn from past mistakes (no matter how many times they make them), so let the club et al gather the pledge money in and formally sort out the direction 'we' want to go to make sure this does not happen again.

But make no bones about it we cannot and have not done it without the support of people on this, other forums, the general public as well as having the media on side at last an for that I nd many other club members thank you .

When do they want the cash?

Is the plan to email those who have pledged?

TRSS, sorry should have said, the method of recovering the pledge money is being sorted out now, but any announcements should be tomorrow, I think it will be announced on the VTSC web site, followed by whichever method is best for the info against the pledgee, i.e. e-mail, post, phone and additonally posted on this and other forums.

If someone else does not post the gen on here when it is known, I will try to as soon as I find out, hope this is ok.

"oh don't forget we will also not tell you anything untill it has been left to late"

Do you mean like you have done for the past three years?

"there are those that cannot grasp change and do not learn from past mistakes"

yes, how true, so what's happening to them then? again after three years?

"so let the club et al gather the pledge money in and formally sort out the direction 'we' want to go to make sure this does not happen again"

"WE" won't have a say in it exrigger. From what I can gather, there is no 'we' at Bruntingthorpe - there's only ME!

"we cannot and have not done it without the support of people on this, other forums"

How sad then that you couldn't have used this very same forum to keep us all updated then, instead of us having to rely on TVOC website, which at best was/is third rate frankly!

I'm sorry to be so cynical about the whole thing, but I just wonder what is going to happen in about 12 months time, when Pleming makes his annual statement of 'give us more money or she's grounded' again. What will you all be saying to us then exrigger?
