I don't know about Oxford, but could it be Canefield Airport on Dominica?

Not Canefield either.

This country consists of more than one island (in name as well as physically).

Must be St Vincent and the Grenadines, but which island.
We've had Union, so not that. Seems too old for Bequia.

How about Mustique?

Sorry, wrong again. Looking at Google Maps of the Caribbean I can see several other countries that have more than one island in their name.

Turks & Caicos
St Kitts & Nevis
Antigua & Barbuda
Trinidad & Tobago

It's in one of these!

Yes it is the "terminal" at Codrington. The town is named after Christopher Codrington, a former governor who left books to All Souls College, Oxford. to form the Codrington Library.

All yours.

No, it's in the Western Hemisphere, the Americas.

My guess would be for somewhere just across the Berings strait from Alaska. Can't think what country it would be other than Siberia.

So, how about Providenya?

Sorry not to be Keeping Up.

Much smaller than Anchorage but not TOO far away.

Note that I said "Americas".

The picture was taken upon the arrival of first jet service.

I have to be away from the computer for a while. I'll check back as often as possible.

Bingo! Mel has it.

Kotzebue is about 60 miles / 100 km north of the Arctic Circle and on a bay off the Bering Strait.

A more-recent photo of the terminal.

Edited to add overall photo:

Rwy 8-26 is asphalt, 17-35 is gravel.

The baton is now in Mel's hands.

Next Challenge

Thanks seacue. At first I thought it was an aircraft of Western Airlines but the tail logo was incorrect. Incidently I checked with the mods regarding when to start a new thread and the response was as I PM'd you.
Next challenge a bit further back in time than yours.
