Since I know where BEagle's childhood was spent, I'll guess Merryfield.

Neither Little Rissington nor Merryfield......

The aircraft type from which the photo was taken finally went out of RAF service in 1959 - and some were based not far from the site of the photo until March 1957.

Beagle's challenge

I agree a Sunderland from Pembroke that would make this airfield possibly RNAS St Davids.

Taken from a Sunderland, possibly based at RAF Pembroke Dock......

But it's neither Brawdy nor St. David's!

Although you're getting warmer.....

Isla Juan Fernandez, aka Robinson Crusoe Island?

BTW, I can see that you would want to avoid undershooting, but isn't the approach a little high?

We don't know if we're right yet!

You post a new picture if you're right, I'll post one later.

BAMRA and ONB

Your answer sounds lots "Samoa" accurate than mine, but I can't immediately find an IATA code for it - funny that!

Jack

PS Right ocean though ....
