Thanks Keith. I am afraid that it was no great knowledge on my part. I happened to be browsing another forum recently and saw a similar hut with the name Sibu showing. As I had never heard of it I had to look it up and the details just stuck in my mind.

OK, a few clues.

1)Airfield was built in 1942 as part of a group of dispersal fields.
2)Started out by having a 4,500 foot gravel runway which was later bituminised.
3)The field is now a housing estate (hardly a unique feature I fear).

Ii is indeed Aitkenvale Weir in Queensland. Opened in 1942 it was abandoned as a dispersal field in case of invasion by the Japanese it was abandoned after the war.

AAO has control.

The province / state where this airport is located also houses the majority of the largest 'floodable region' in the world.
