RN Grumman Martlets?
I've had these two photos for years. I'm guessing that the aircraft were RN Grumman Martlets, but am wide open to correction. Another picture from the same lot is of a group of ATC officers at a Summer Camp, dated Wigtown, July 1945, and that makes me wonder if these two were taken during a Sea Day - the background to the first could well be somewhere just off the coast around Dumfriesshire. No mention of the Carrier involved, I'm afraid.

Re Old Hairy's post222: what is this 'boat with a contra-prop & V12 engine?
It suggests a Walrus pilots fantasy, but the noise for the crew............

The British Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm, (FAA), named the Grumman F4F the Martlet. ICM is correct on the three on-deck aircraft..

Valetta of RAF Far East Command at Luqa Malta in 1957.
Just look at the background in the days when Britain had a proper airforce.
2 Valiants, 13 Canberras and a couple of Shackletons. There's nostalgia for you!

Can remember the Britannia in the background being flown in when I was still at school. As I remember the Starboard Outer was feathered for its last flight. From the photo looks as though the engines are being removed by crane. It ended up with concrete blocks on steel frames in place of the engines to keep it balanced. Eventually used for fire practice.
