From what I hear Tiger in Australia is bleeding money at the moment. 80% load factors at rock bottom fares just does not ad up

Bmibaby, also the former hunting ground of Mr Davis, is a subsidiary of loss-making British carrier bmi and flies to European destinations from several regional UK airports.

Germany's Lufthansa took control of bmi last year and attempted to sell the carrier but withdrew it from the market when it was unable to achieve an acceptable price.
There has been speculation in the UK media, that Lufthansa would sell or close bmibaby, which announced in November it would cut its fleet from 17 to 12 planes and cut jobs to concentrate on routes where there were clear prospects of growth.
Tiger's statement said that Ms Roberts would take a "well-earned break" after completing her hand-over to Mr Rix.
"Shelley has established Tiger Airways Australia as major national airline and led it from infancy to profitability," Mr Davis said.

I read somewhere that Tiger only makes money over the Dec/Jan period in Australia, and with such a small fleet, is there enough critical mass for this operation to be sustainable beyond the short term ?

No idea what the so called "rumour" is about, but on going issues with the regulator can't help.

I wouldn't read into it too much, but expansion plans are debatable with the current management team.

They have put a managing director in charge who never previously had even been to this great country, so his understandings of the market were always slim, but hey, he was Tony's friend after all!

The British Management team are not even worth the rant. :hmm:

I just watched a news item on channel 10 news stating that Tiger will be pulling out from the ADL-SYD run from August 1, 2011. It said that it expects staff losses from ADL, and possibly out of the Aussie market completely by middle of next year!! Doesn't sound promising? I would imagine that the base will in the short term, will reduce to a single aircraft.

This outrageous. Should have been grounded until its all sorted out. Where's the press when you need them "part owned by SINGAPORE AIRLINES" blah "horror tiger almost crashed"

Just heard that all current tiger flights have been told to return to mel.

Heard on late news that Tiger to cancel all Adelaide to Sydney flights!

Seems to me that they run the risk of brand damage beyond repair. Perhaps SIA will buy out the Australian operation and rename it Silk??? Would feed into the new SIA LCC next year.

Tiger Airways' services to and from Singapore are not affected and continue to operate normally.
Tiger Airways continues to cooperate fully with the industry regulator and safety underpins our operations at all times.
The airline is currently working with the safety regulator to achieve a satisfactory outcome to its investigation at the earliest opportunity, as was achieved with the recent Show Cause Notice. Tiger Airways has fully complied with the conditions required by CASA as a result of this process.
In the meantime the airline is doing all it can to minimise passenger disruption, especially for passengers who are travelling this weekend and over the next week.
Customers with bookings within Australia between now and 6:00 am on Saturday, 9 July should not travel to the airport. They will be offered a full refund or credit for deferred travel.
Tiger Airways will be providing regular updates via its website (Welcome To Tiger Airways) as well as through the media. The next update will be at 3:00 pm AEST Saturday, 2 July 2011.
The airline apologises for any inconvenience to its passengers. Tiger Airways is committed to resolving the issue, assisting CASA and to resuming services as soon as possible.

Please note: Tiger Airways' call centre is experiencing a high volume of calls at this time but the airline has added extra agents to help field the volume of calls.
