The only thing going for the group is as a whole, they are not losing money. But apart from that everything else is stuffed.
So if THEY ARE NOT losing money, or perhaps at about break even, why would they even consider closing down the operation. Just because a group of posters on here think...

The entire group is up **** creek.

traditionally SQ will not throw good money after bad.
do you really believe that the board will walk away from Tiger. Not a chance. First of all the loss of face it would generate, secondly Tiger exists as a beachead for Singapore investment in Australia. These guys play the long term game. Tiger may be suffering from issues of their own making but they will be around for a while.

Mr. Hat 26th Jan 2011 08:39

Probably even more annoying to VB..you're right. 3 holer.

I don't think they are going to leave or shut down anytime soon. There is a market for them.

3 Holer 27th Jan 2011 05:11

wheels down,as you purport to know the facts, can you tell me who is financing Tiger. In this article (circa Nov 2010) Managing Director Tony Davis sold a major slice of his share holdings in the airline as did Ryanasia and Indigo Partners sighting "doubts about the airline's propects".

So who pays the bills if it is not SQ, Tiger's biggest stakeholder ?

GroundSME 27th Jan 2011 05:14

Clarification

I guess if you don't like Tiger either because you couldn't get in, or you're already there but not happy you can turn everything into a sh*t story. That's your call, it is a rumour site after all. But to be factual, the Company is only offering Award conditions in the absence of an EBA. They've committed in writing to every pilot hired on the Award that when the EA gets up, all EBA terms and conditions will be applied and backdated so they don't miss out.

DeltaT 27th Jan 2011 06:41

# A new Qld base now on hold
# New aircraft for March no longer arriving
Given the bad flooding in QLD and people not wanting to go there for a holiday or otherwise for a while, then that would no doubt explain the base and new planes going there all being delayed until such time as its viable again??

No Idea Either 27th Jan 2011 06:59

Forget the 'making money/losing money' scenarios......

No safety department for 6 months
If this is true, for a supposed airline operating high capacity jet aircraft, then its disgraceful and CASA should be all over this. We have all grizzled at CASA over the years for whatever reason but I think that this one is a biggie........NO SAFETY DEPT FOR OVER SIX MONTHS.......WHAT ARE YOU DOING CASA.......PUT THAT BIG MAC DOWN AND RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM NOW...........

hongkongfooey 27th Jan 2011 09:23

Good luck with that, how many months/years have you guys been trying to get the EBA up ? Doncha just love dealing with the Singas :yuk:

So the recent freek weather in QLD has delayed A/C arriving and a base opening, presumably both of which would have been planned well before the floods hit....impressive.

No idea, that would be a good name for your mates at CASA :} A certain 717 operator had an entire management team in ADL that were not endorsed on the A/C and CASA had their heads up their ar5e for some years until they bent one ( literally ) then they puffed their chests out, they are like most Gov. depts, pathetic

No I have'nt been knocked back nor do I work for them, but I do have a bit of experience at trying to polish turds

DeltaT 27th Jan 2011 09:36

Just floating a logical conceivable idea that its cheaper to ask for a delay in aircraft delivery, -after- the event, rather than have them sitting there doing nothing in QLD

GroundSME 28th Jan 2011 07:34

You're actually misquoting the article you provided. Neither Davis, nor Ryanair or Indigo Partners reps gave any indication (in the article) that they sold on the basis of doubts about future performance. That reason is suggested by supposed 'insiders'. Who are they? In fact, Davis sold only when the Shares topped S$2.25 when all 'insiders' tipped they would max out at S$2.00. Wouldn't you?? As it turns out the Tiger IPO was awarded the most successful IPO in Singapore for the year. But what the hell, lets not allow the facts to spoil a good story.

The fact is that SQ have not provided any funding since start up and have never input a cent to prop up Tiger Australia. The Tiger Group is currently self funding. It was four years before TR was profitable but the group has been in a position to underwrite TT until they achieve critical mass, if not for the GFC and now the recent floods, they might have done so already. But as they say, excuses are like ar*eholes - everybody has one. They now need to find a way to claw back the opportunities lost.

Sunstar320 28th Jan 2011 08:51

3 Holer, they bailed because the pilot shortage was about to hit the company hard, and became quite the public relations nightmare. Share price has been down ever since, Singaporeans lost confidence in the company, they were canceling 1/3 of the schedule daily (not that the ceo would ever admit it was related).

Q3 results just out, $S21.6m net profit. Target for this year (net) was $91m, but full year target is in the area of $60-70m. Fuel prices/Singapore pilot shortage/QLD floods to blame for falling short. Although next financial year's guidance has been boosted to a $110m net profit.

From the press release..essentially just 2 more aircraft for the next 9 months for Melbourne.

The recent weather events on the east coast of Australia will have an adverse effect on earnings for Tiger Airways Australia in the fourth quarter. As a consequence, plans to increase the fleet beyond the current 10 aircraft in Australia have been deferred until April 2011. Tiger Airways Australia will increase its seat capacity by at least 20% for the period April to October 2011.

3 Holer 29th Jan 2011 20:46

GroundSME you put good spin on anything anti Tiger. I fail to see where I misquoted shareholders sentiments regarding Tiger.

In August Mr Davis sold a big slice of his shareholdings, raising doubts about his confidence in the airline's prospects.
It may have been, as you stated, that Davis was getting out before the share price went down and by coincidence the other two big shareholders did the same. What would drive the share price down if the product was so good?
After those three pulled out the share price never went back up (and continued to fall), which would sight a lack of confidence in the Airline's prospects.

Maybe Sunstar has it correct, I don't know. I do know that Tiger's in flight and ground service, OTP and public relations fall a long way short of the mothership SQ, even in LCC terms.

Tutaewera 30th Jan 2011 03:37

QLD etc

One strength of a true LCC is the ability to react rapidly and not get locked into large projects until very late in piece. Tiger also has other "cubs" (airlines) in the group to divert new aircraft deliveries to if required. So I see the delaying of a base or a couple of deliveries due to the QLD floods as quite possible... :bored:

Some of the other claims making interesting reading though. Albeit (based on my info) quite wide of the mark in areas.

Mr. Hat 30th Jan 2011 06:11

you can have that..

Yep they can open and close bases as they wish and its tough luck for the staff.
Just ask the J* guys that get/got forced moved. Great family life. Note to people in this scenario:
1. Gather experience.
2. Leave.

Flying is great but not that great..

I'd rather go and get a trade than work under those conditions.

scorcher 31st Jan 2011 21:41

The two new aircraft were destined for Brisbane as part a new base of over six aircraft.

It may soon become public, however, that CASA has stopped Tiger from opening its new base.

Apparently the severe under resourcing by the British management 'team' has left Tiger incapable of safely operating a new base in the eyes of CASA.

The delay to Tiger aircraft has very little to do with flooding and a lot to do with management ineptitude.

Undoubtedly the Qld floods will have a temporary impact on discretionary airline travel but it isn't the source of Tiger's woes.

And then again, it won't:ugh:

scorcher 3rd Feb 2011 08:18

Darwinism you are quite right.
It probably won't come out publicly as ultimately this is not the way of the industry and the spin doctors are well practiced.
Possibly the multiple 'random' ramp checks that are rumoured to have occurred today may lead to something more substantial.
Interesting timing wouldn't you say?
:ooh:

Blue Sky Baron 8th Feb 2011 00:57

Seems like flights from Melbourne to Darwin are no longer available.
A call to reservations was no help at all in finding out if this is temporary or permanent???????????????

BSB :ugh:

wheels_down 8th Feb 2011 05:36

Baron, demand for DRW was obviously weak so they decided last year to cut it from 1 Feb-26 Mar. Back to four weekly on the 27/3.

PoppaJo 16th Feb 2011 08:19

any truth to the rumour of a HS RTO on 16 at ymml last Friday? Was told wrong load sheet input?
