Watching Metour Pilot on YouTube about the problems with the PW1100 engines on the A320/321/220.
While not directly relevant to the Rex saga, it did highlight an interesting fact regarding the repatriation of grounded airframes. Apparently it’s not economically viable to put many parted out aircraft back into the air, especially those airframes that have experienced long term parking exposed to the elements, and we’re talking about aircraft that in some cases are less than a decade old!

All to say that it is not copmletely analogous with Rex's situation, but they do still have the big problem ahead of how to keep the Saabs going long-term. The Fokkers that are being chopped up by other operators in this country probably speak to the pathway forward.

The Captain issue here is endemic. Adding a dozen aircraft back in and growing the regional network is simply a fantasy.
Finding Captains is one thing, but they have the added issue around trying to retain them. The first question in any interview to any applicant would be how long until you quit. Back in the day it was we own you. Boy the tables have turned.

Realistically Regional Airlines these days are just experience building jobs. Experienced candidates don't really exist anymore and there is no pipe line for DE Commands so their only hope is to get the cadet program back to where it was, that is the only viable way of maintaining staffing levels.

I heard noises like 15 Captains short as it stands, then adding back in 12-15 aircraft - what's that? Another 60 skippers to find on top of what they are short now?

Saab FO time is enough these days to get oneself on the hold file at many majors. In prior times, Jetstar would take all the Saab Captains, now they don’t even need that. Right Seat will do.
75 Captains. That’s beyond a fantasy.

I would assume Air T's plan will be to relive itself of it's extensive SAAB 340 spares inventory via internal transactions at premium prices, then once the shelves are empty - so sorry it didn't work

There could be a great deal of reliving going on when and if they relieve themselves of the spares inventory.

Transport Minister Catherine King has also moved to safeguard Rex’s fleet and regional routes, with a restructuring of its debts and an extra loan being made contingent on Air T keeping the airline running. The government will also ensure Rex’s planes cannot be sold without its permission.
Rex and Government Loans, all aboard the gravy train.
