You're listening to Radio Labor, and that was What-about-ery.

If the first line applied, wouldn't that be capitalism supported by government?

He does have a point the Liberals have been a basket case for the last 15 years they deserve to die quickly, Abbott was a complete moron and Scomo put the nail in the coffin! The basic fact was the Liberals did fing nothing and destroyed the Australian economy! The tide has changed Liberal party will cease to exist next few years. In fact they are hardly existing now! Taylor is a complete and utter Numpty. Gone within several months!

Not listening to radio “anything”. Happy swing voter.

As other comments noted, Liberals didn’t deserve to win. They’ve thoroughly buried the “better economic managers” title Howard earned.

I’m just an avid learner of history. We need stable government with some policies. Then we will see some change happening.

Back to Rex, I honestly hope they succeed. Full disclosure, I’ve worked there in the past and think they provide a good product to regional areas. There’s a reason they survived so long and all the other small regionals disappeared. Good luck to them.

(Jet excursion was utter stupidity).

At least Labor will allocate funding to various projects to get them going.
Like the NDIS for example.

Anyway it looks like Senator McKenzie has the department looking into the lack of due diligence before they burned $250 000 000 of tax payers money on a failing airline.

Oh, the irony. Maybe someone should remind Sen McKenzie who was in government when Rex was given millions of dollars they put towards getting their jet operation up??

Or getting stuck into Albo for non declared upgrades when she has now admitted she did exactly the same thing ! Perhaps keep your own house in order before being too critical.

... the difference is the conservative side pay it back or step down, as they have a conscience whereas... lies or tumblweeds.

Still waiting, Anika Wells, Tony Burke, Don Farrell, Blackout Bowen, Sarah H-Young, Dorinda Cox, Mahren Farooqi... you get the point.

How much longer can the SAAB fleet really go?

It was mentioned they intend to get 40 years out of each Saab. Essentially most of the fleet today has another decade left.

What happens next will likely depend on the government of the day it seems. Perhaps the government buys the fleet and Rex leases it? At least the taxpayer might get a return.

Whatever they opt for, it doesn’t come cheap. Even replacing the fleet with the new Cessna Skycourier would likely require half a billion.

Dornier 328 ECO is the answer to the Saab, they even have STOL capability. Only problem is that its not here yet.

So an aircraft not in service yet is the solution. Okay, how will they pay for them? Around $15-18 million per airframe. They will need forty. Do the maths.

The pickle here is that Rex is not profitable. As such, they will continue to go cap in hand to the Federal government for regular taxpayer injections just to keep it afloat.

Catherine King has already stated unequivocally that “Rex is too important to fail”. Anyone with half a brain knows that’s just political spin. it’s spin the Federal government, has however decided to be the hill on which they are prepared to die on. As long as that’s the case, the taxpayer will continue to be on the hook.

By Air T’s own admission, Rex cannot be profitable until they put another 17 aircraft back in service. Without going into the detail of the sheer fantasy of that statement, it’s safe to say that has not, and will not happen. Short of the Federal Government nationalising Rex, what’s the next step?

I reckon the Government, Air T, and most certainly the incompetent management of Rex, do not have first bloody clue!
