How Many Virgins Have Left The Flock

I have heard that a few of DJ's pilots have left Virgin. Does anyone know how many and why they left??

$$$$ of course

Cause if you have kids the dole and health care card is worth more than a VB job.
Also i think the conditiond in the RFDS are better and they are recruiting.

Of more relevance is possibly the question - "How many are looking elsewhere?" Particularly in light of the most recent EBA offering.

I have a mate in DJ and he says the flying is fun and the girls are great, but the money is poor and there is a lot of special treatement to certain pilots etc for upgrade and other duties.

But he says they are still wanting pilots and if you have the cash to buy an endorsement, your in apparently.

He reckons a while ago an F/O got sick of all the rubbish and resigned. I guess if everyone stood together and didn't put up with the rubbish I'm sire things would change, but there ain't that many jobs to go to.

747 400, your mate is leading you up the garden path when telling you that if you buy the endorsement then you're in. That is definately not the case. Guys have gone over and done the endorsement and come back to nothing, some have been offered an interview and been knocked back. Wait till you get the offer of employment, then go.

eisle s. trust me I am very happy here where I am and I would not apply for that type of money either.

I'm certainly not bagging the DJ crew, but for that money to fly a jet, well I think it lowers the standards for the poor guys coming up through GA now.

I remember however that when I was in GA flying a 737 looked pretty good.

Good on the DJ guys who are here.

Just a question for any DJ guy, at my compnay we have a pretty strict seniority, it seems to keep the troops happy. Why doesn't Virgin have a seniority system, and how do the guys there feel about the way it is now?

Scuse me

98538 and some cents
Reality check here, if that's the amount what's the complaint, if QF is more, then an attitude adjustment is needed somewhere.

Gaunty, junior 767 F/O would be about the same. Senior F/O would be a bit more than that (years of service pay increment and the additional hours pay per annum from permanent roster instead of rotating.

I'd be interested to know what stick the VB figure was based on and how many days of work per month and how many overnights.

Keg me old

No criticism of QF just a litle perplexed about the rantings about VBs "low pay scale" if that is an indication.

I'd be happy to be a professional FO until they carried me out in a box at those rates.
At my age who needs ego, been there done that, just a quiet finish to my working life being a willing chief helper in the cockpit, we get to fight over whose NOT going to do the next sector, all care no responsibility AND I get to play "uncle" to all those gorgeous FA's. and it gets me out from under mrs gauntys feet.

Have a few mates in VB and concur with your figures.

65K out of GA and 69K if jet experienced.

Can`t believe some are adding on their allowances to the Gross figure. As your accountant declares to the ATO-allowances totally expended.

In VBs case for good reason too.Away for half the month and long lay overs in expensive cities.Any semblance of a life or lifestyle, aswell as long term health(eating something more than cheap fast food) would dictate the expenditure of your overnight allowances.

Gaunty,as usual you have hit the nail on the head,VB would be a terrific retirement proposition for an old and established bloke like yourself.

Young bloke raising a family, pay off endorsement, pay off house, safe car, school fees.In a bull economy where it would seem your compatriots are 30%better off.

On ego.Witnessed a jibe from QF mate directed to VB mate.QF mate after inside information as to the possibility of a VB Melbourne base.Figured an investment in Melbournes`airport suburbs(Broadmeadowes) wise-with an influx of underpaid VB crew.

Good Luck. You are the number two airline with the number two profit. You are more deserving than a $36 case of wine and $1000 taxed bonus.

Gnadenburg.

Ouch! touche mon ami. I was only kidding around really.

You are too, correct and I hasten to add that I agree with you;
You are the number two airline with the number two profit. You are more deserving than a $36 case of wine and $1000 taxed bonus.
On ego, it is disappointing that the QF guy sees VB as the enemy or as "second class", he is looking in the wrong direction.

It must be recognised though by all sides that VB are now in a position that they may have hoped for, but didn't expect to be as quickly as they are, when they started. Phew.
But you know what I mean. That applies to QF as well.

It will take time for BOTH camps to shift gears to adjust to the "NEW WORLD".
But they will reach a new equilibrium very quickly if they are allowed to do so without interference.

I happen to believe, that QF understand very well that they must continue to meet VB fares and all that means and that VB understand that they will have to provide some sort of premium service to their loyal fans at some time. But first things first.
Lets get the whole thing upright first.

(Geez I'm getting worn out quicker than I would like by adjusting to all of these NEW WORLDS that keep appearing. If the research physicists had just left the 11 dimensional multiverse thingy alone, then they wouldn't keep popping up all the time. )
But I digress.

There will be adjustments that need to made by BOTH sides if they are BOTH to survive the onslaught of the foreign competitors that we appear to be hell bent on introducing to our domestic transport sector. There I go again.

What are the idiot pollies going to do when faced by the potential death of QF and how are the ACCC going to umpire a "commercial" fare war between two companies who have survived a foreign led fiasco (in which SQ were complicit) and live here and a new entrant whose interests were then and are now purely predatory.

A new entrant may start a short term "salary" war to poach the best, but I doubt it with the number of "free" pilots around, but it wil be short term. The economics of a three airline market in this country just dont add up to anything but a long term no win for all except to those who have only arrived on the planet in the last 6 months.

My advice is to latch on to whatever you've and hang on tight, whilst your individual companies see everybody else off the best way they know how and then work it out from there, just be careful you dont kill that goose.

God knows history tells us that Oz is a natural duopoly at the very best.

We need to keep it that way. For the medium term at least

Foreign competitors!!!!!! HA...give me a break QF is 49% foreign owned and DJ is 51% foreign owned, until very recently it was 100% foreign owned. I think this is more a debate about the "shape" of the foreigners eyes, with a hint of another bias in there as well. Only room for two? Maybe! If DJ fails and all the staff are made redundant- stiff!! Likewise for QF and the potential start-up. John Howard has insisted on a free market, so he's gotten one.
