Nope, not the case. No jerrycans needed.
By filling it up to the maximum fuel, it was meant the maximum capacity of the fuel tanks installed in the aircraft.
Jerrycans would be tricky and it would have to be certified and so on.
Then again, for the military the rules are likely to be a lot different and maybe jerrycans are allowed ...

Already disappointed in Albo, being a houso I thought he would have turned wearing thongs, singlet board shorts and flown Jetstar up to Japan.

Dear lord, I started this thread with a simple non-political question as clearly the logistice were organised some time before the election. The last few replies have been risible.
I think you will find the real answer is that we don't have a dedicated long range VIP aircraft because it "looks bad" (to whom I don't actually know given that just about every country in the world runs a widebody) . They should have just bitten the bullet years ago and gotten a 777/330 with AUX tanks and a proper VIP interior with secure coms etc and the problem would be solved. However in Australia if you do something like that then you will be destroyed by the press and the opposition. So instead we now take two aircraft. Which is obviously a bit difficult if you want to make a big deal about climate change.

The A330-200 IS a flying fuel tank.

What is the problem that needed solving? What else are you going to use it for? .
It goes back a long time but the issue fundamentally is that the BBJ isn't really suitable for long range missions as it doesn't have the payload capability and no crew rest. There also is a limit of the number of extra pax you can carry. (This issue came up in the Garuda Jogjakarta Accident) All this disappears if you get a wide body aircraft. The problem in Australia is that you will be pilloried by the press if you go and buy such an aircraft, even though that is what is required. So the compromise was use the Tanker with a VIP plug in interior instead of a dedicated aircraft.

I would imagine the logistics of this were worked out well in advance, posssibly even expecting the LNP to be returned to office?? I'm fairly certain the RAAF plan things well in advance. I might be wroung, maybe they 'scramble' to a known upcoming meeting??

As the link posted above shows a poll done recently in trust showed PW as the most trusted leader in Australia, Albo second. On the opposite end of the scale Morrison is (or should I say was!) the least trusted, followed a close second by Dutton, the guy the Liberals think will win them back those lost votes.....

There’s also a thread on Jet Blast where we can argue Aussie politics all day long, leave these forums to somewhat aviation related content.
