Your first problem will be crossing state borders to get to the consulate interview. Getting out after that should be the easy part.

The person that interviewed me said he did an entire week of Aussie interviews recently.

Yeah it seems that way, fingers crossed everything keeps ramping up. Seems like the states has already done a great job of getting back close to normal pax movements, I read somewhere numbers are back up to about 80% of summer 2019?
And management know it. The real threat is the machinations of all regional management. But you can't let that stop ya.
The positive to whatever regional you choose is you will learn to do some of the most challenging flying of your life. You'll put your liver to the test, and meet some awesome people along the way. You'll get yourself a jet command in under 2 years, and who knows what other opportunities may come your way in the meantime.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the water is warm.
I can't remember if Piedmont Airlines has taken E3s in the past but they announced a new bonus program today. This has the appearance of desperation but I could be wrong since it's hard to read these people. It might be a good time to contact them to see if they are interested in an E3 applicant

Once a long term work visa is in hand Border Force will issue an exemption to depart.
They may require a stat dec saying you'll not return for 3 months.

I filled out a stat dec and was given an exemption within 48 hours, it isn't actually as much of a hassle as I thought it would be.

they definitely have taken E3s in the past.
Make no mistake, the wholly owned carriers offering this carrot might be good for pilots on an E3 who can't go anywhere, but, for the vast majority, these numbers are nothing compared to what you will make spending an extra 3 years at the end of your career at a major that isn't AA.
Add to this that piedmont is an absolute bottom feeder in the regional world with some terrible contractual language.
Australians over here are finding their own ways into green cards, or negotiating E3s flying heavies with cargo carriers or Airbii at LCCs. The days of being stuck at a regional for us are slowly coming to an end.

And you're certainly right about making more being at a US legacy vs a regional. It's just arithmetic.
Whether "...an E3...can't go anywhere..." or has a shot at something else in the USA, a regional job might be a good step if things aren't offering opportunities Down There at the moment.
Come on up here and take a run at it. Anything you can get from a US regional may help you somehow/somewhere in the future, particularly if it's your first jump into turbojet/airline stuff. That first step is the most difficult.
