Once upon a time the little island of Nauru had squillions of dollars in royalties from flogging their guano. With this they set up an airline. That lost money. So they bought hotels and resorts. The theory being that people would flock to the hotels and resorts via the airline. The hotels and resorts collapsed or had to be sold at a loss. The airline hung in for a few more years, but eventually failed as well.
Maybe this is different. The defunct airline will rise from the ashes, funded by all those people already booked in at the resort and needing transport. Of course, only this particular airline can deliver them because Our Airline, Pacific Blue and Air Vanuatu won't be able to cope with the demand, such is the pulling power of 'what's this place and where is it again?'
But, to change the subject - looks like we will be paid very soon. We all got the email sayiing as much. Let's just hope that happens before they write the cheque for the resort.

looking at the email, it seems the workplace ombudsman has been kept in the loop too.
Hopefully it will all be above board now and we'll see all of our entitlements!!!
I told the wife I will be holding off buying her the diamond earings until it goes in the bank though!!!

Hello ASIC, Hello ATO, Hello Federal Police, Hello Fairies
Once upon a time:
An airline was formed with lots of potential and lots more promise.
They bought, they flew and according to them, they conquered.
They landed jets on grass,
They extracted landing lights from undercarriage,
But they couldn't dispatch on time, ever.
And yet they conquered.
They lost contracts,
They lost face.
They p#ssed off CASA.
And yet they conquered.
They had specialists,
They had experts,
They had little income.
And yet they conquered.
They had 5 aircraft,
Then they had none.
They had 150+ employees,
Then they had none (well almost).
And yet they conquered.
They had the Solomons,
Then they didn't.
They had mining contracts,
Then they didn't.
But I'm telling you that they conquered.
They had kudos,
Then they had creditors-lots of creditors.
Then they had a different company name,
Then they had two.
And they conquered.
They forged contracts in foreign lands,
But haven't paid wages or super in this land.
They advertised for 737 drivers
They tossed aside Embraer drivers.
But unlike other Australian carriers, they have conquered.
They landed when others wouldn't,
Repelled lightning strikes when others couldn't,
Although others used VHF radios,
They thought that perhaps they shouldn't.
And they conk, conk, conk, conquered.
Then one day the money ran out.
They dispatched the CEO far and wide to sign a mystery contract.
But they hadn't paid their bills at home
But they leased a F#ckin' island!

Hello?????
Plus the minor detail of a fit & proper maintenance organisation to support over-water operations to remote islands.
Plus, which aeroplane, leased from whom? Three weeks to go.

Anuha has had a very chequered career as a resort. At one time, not too long ago, it was completely burnt to the ground!! It used to be leased by that guy on the Gold Coast who brought Frank Sinatra out to open one of the golf hotels.

Mach E A - a little off post but if Air Nauru has failed then what are the two aircraft I hear flying around using their callsign. Otherwise I wish you luck in your endeavours with SAW as there are far too many shonks in this game trying to screw honest people out of hard earned money and even if they do eventually pay it should be with interest and compensation for late payment .pain and suffering but don't hold your breath
Feenix - as you well know, ON was losing money and technically it failed when the bank repossessed their one remaining B737-400 aircraft. This was an airline that had 7 Boeing jets in its heyday. Taiwan came to their rescue by giving them a fairly old B737-300. But until then they were grounded for about 10 months, I seem to recall.
Due to a very savvy Chairman of the Board, they do seem to be surviving, but then with no lease to pay on at least one of their two aircraft, as long as the Nauruans don't go all silly again they should survive.
If SAW stays grounded for more than another month, I would suspect that they could never recover. Unless someone pumps in another $25 million or so or they can trade with Taiwan - an aeroplane for a vote.
Will CASA allow them to hold an AOC if they have no operation and no proper maintenance organisation or none willing to support them?
The point I have tried to make is that airlines should learn from the mistakes made by others and stay away from hotels and resorts in remote parts of the Pacific. Spending money in this way while defrauding over 100 staff for salary and superannuation is criminal. They have bought this resort with OUR money! If that's not fraud I dunno what is.

Hey Mach I'm on your side and totally agree with most you say, especially re resorts using the staff's money. Hopefully it will all catch up with them and they get what they deserve. You are only half right about Air Nauru as they were not given an aircraft and lease payments exist for both a/c but this is the wrong forum to air their dirty linen. They have unlike SAW continued to look after their staff even during the hard times you speak of and have survived thus far even while competing with unfair competion from the likes of SAW who trade in such a manner that they are bound to go broke meanwhile making it harder for the genuine operators. It would appear that as you said unless they can find an uneducated benefactor (difficult in these times) that their days are numbered. I just hope they don't drag honest ,hard working people down with them.

Let me get this straight, let me know if anythings a miss etc
1. Began Operations with Brisbane as the base, with Charter as the priority over all.
2. Took the 170 back from Air Solomons due to lack of payment.
3. Began an RPT to HIR with the 170 and the 190 (now aquired)
4. Began to show wide ideas with the HIR route, bringing Resorts and Island RPTs into the powerpoint.
5. Began to win contracts.
6. Began Cloncurry route with new 145, and looked to Cairns for more expansion
7. Lost Contracts. Lost Aircraft
8. Fired staff
9. Released a letter to those of us left there (sounding like Admin to me personally aswell as others)
10. Fired more Staff
11. Very quickly ditched everything in Brisbane and Moved to Perth
12. Somehow managing to keep an RPT going in Cairns with 2 120s' replacing the 145's
13. Continue to keep "profit" showing on the balance sheet, when all thats accumulating is debt (also known as: "Escape the Creditors... Part II ")
That about right?
