Well said, MH.
Having been on the receiving end of said call bells, unfortunately I am unable to offer you a pillow or a blanket for your $19 to get to OOL.
Happy New Year to those who pay adequately for the service they receive.

While a buy-in may not be likely this would not preclude an alliance between Virgin Blue (Virgin ???) and Singapore Airlines. This is, after all, what JB's virtual airline network is predicated on. That is alliances, not buy-ins.

My wild idea was given the existing relationship with Virgin Altlantic and the associated naming problems, that JB might have struck a deal in Singapore whilst over there for the Formula 1. And that deal seeing Tiger and VB in an alliance to go head to head with QF/JQ. Pretty way out ..i know..
I'll come up with another one once I've had a coffee.

Biton, I think your comment is quite perceptive. DJ is all about alliances because it doesn't have the cash to purchase an equity stake in anything. Cash reserves showing on DJ's financials are just that, reserves, and not a 'war chest' to fund acquisitions.
Due to the combination of Tiger eating away at them from below, Jetstar boxing them in from the sides and the Qantas mainline citiflyer business product squeezing them from above, DJ is in a very tight cash position with no scope to improve their margins.
Despite their small fleet, Tiger's 'cost plus' product has effectively filled the gap left by DJ when BG had a brain aneurism and announced their emergence as a 'New World Carrier'?? If Tiger can continue to build mass their simple business model will continue to take low budget consumer business away from DJ.

" You really need to get out more."
Yes, indeed I do, for many reasons.
However that doesn’t explain your comment regarding the “worse pay and conditions in the western world.”
Is this grammatically incorrect and factually inaccurate statement the result of research or are you merely following the bleating heard on this one?

Your base rate is amongst the lowest in the industry,
Your annual leave entitlement is amongst the lowest in the industry, (actually you get payed less too as no "flight pay")
Your sick leave entitlements are amongst the lowest in the industry,
You pay for your own uniform (that' a laugh),
You pay for your own parking,
You pay for your own ASIC,
Your "new hires" are employed under a crappy AFAP award and have no guarantee of 2 consecutive rostered days off,
Need I continue with the bleating? You can continue to live in denial - I however can choose to improve my grammar.
And for the record, it's "HERD"

Hoof,
These are not my conditions of employment; I do not work for an Australian company. But jumping to conclusions is all part of the fun, isn’t it?
I assume the “industry” you refer to is the wider global airline industry, the one existing in the “western world”?
That being the case, I suggest you do some research before jumping in with such misinformation.
There are airlines in Canada and the US, for example, that pay A320/737 pilots considerably less than Tiger, in some cases little more than half and with only 5 days annual leave AND no retirement fund.
Tiger pilots would still be way ahead of these carriers even if their self-funded uniforms were hand made in Italy.
“You pay for your own parking”.
I reckon YOU should get out a bit more my friend.

Sometimes I wonder which is "better"...flying a 737 or 320 for $180K a year, doing 850 plus hours a year, overnights of 5-8 nights a month
Althought the charter sounds pretty good if it is actually as cruisy as that!
