Yep Split Flap you are half right. I got my dictionary out and found the following definitions for the word SCAB.
Scab - "a worker who refuses to join a labor union or to participate in a union strike, who takes a striking worker's place on the job, or the like."
The Feds are in a Union and they decided not to strike. They did not take the jobs of striking workers they just continued to do their job so you are right they are not scabs be this definition.
However I found an alternate definition which could justify AIs comments.
Scab - "a mangy disease in animals"
Management think that pilots are animals and the Feds are definitely a mangy disease amoungst pilots so I believe that Scab may be a fitting discription.
Hows that for an intelligent response MT. All done with out my Mum too.

This all sounds like a bunch of pathetic little kids picking on the different kids at school.
Could someone please name all the benefits, pay increases etc that the Feds have got from ALPA? And via versa for that matter? I'm interested to know. The 400's was a long time ago and wouldn't have happened without the Fed deal.
I understand the ALPA contract has a clause saying they get what the Feds get but it's not the other way around. So what qualifies them as scabs?
I hope I don't have to fly with some of you one day, and I'm sure you will feel the same way too reading this, by not having this member having such a clouded biased view of other fellow work colleagues.
Retort as you will, but I couldn't care less about your extreme views. Sad people.

I'm just glad 90% of the pilots in this country have a spine, unlike yourself mw. Without ALPA to negotiate terms and conditions in this country conditions would be worse than your worst nightmare.
I'm sure you will be happy to take the longer weekend when the Air Nelson pilots negotiate it. Yet will still view the ALPA pilots with distain.
You make me sick.

IF 90% of the pilots " HAD A SPINE" you wouldn't be in the position you are in.
What makes me sick?:
Everyone Bitches and Whines about T's & C's, yet you will never as a body of people stick together.
If you grounded the machinery, walked away from it enmass, then you might get somewhere.
Rant over.

no end in sight?
Calm down you lot.
Disappointing to see westpac give 5% after a comparatively short strike and negotiating period. (good on them obviously, just a shame nelson can't pull finger).
Slightly off topic, did scare nz ever give the extra week that uncle helen gave the country, or did they just fold that into the "extra week for roster life"?

Ha LAW !!! Thats brilliant
We will not get the extra week or the correct time and a half payment. If only the general public realised we don't all get paid $100K or many of the benefits of joe public.
Rant over (I feel better already)

Behind Stifflers Mom:
Thats the way to fight this, from behind Moms apron strings:
When are you going to realise, there are people still working in this country of Aunties! that have been earning the hourly rate for the last 25 years with out an increase, "Fact not BS":
Aviation is notorious for ego's, getting that job, or command, at the expense of whatever or whoever.
I say this with out any appology, none, you will only get lip sevice, the industry CEO's know the PILOTS ego's always rule, and they use us against our selves.
Call me militant, but the sooner you realise you are in a ECONOMIC WAR, emphasis being on WAR, the sooner we stand up for our rights, and what we belive in, the sooner we will come out the other side.
For goodness sake there are van drivers, taxi operators, truck drivers, taking in over 100K a year and they don't have to do six monthly medicals, perform in the box every year, base check, IFR check, and run the risk of failing their medical or either if they have pissed the company off!
Life goes on, the sun continues to rise, the question is, are you a fighter, what are your beliefs, are you a survivor?
As I said, you will get next to nothing unless you become a militant group.
and stick together.

I have heard that a deal may have been struck and that the action is over.
If so, thank goodness. You guys have been through the wringer. I hope the deal is OK. Better to live to fight another day at times. I also hope this is the end for JH... bloody well should be.
Have you guys had access to the ALPA contingency fund??

Word on the Air Nelson street from those on the inside, is those delightful federation members that splitflap correctly calls "parasites" can't hold their hand out quick enough for the extra Alpa negotiated cash!!
Checking into hotels and taking the same amount of money, copping the same conditions etc!!!!
You bunch of low life bottom feeders make me sick! The boys went thru all sorts of pain and hardship while you pigs worked your days off and creamed it!
Now you hold your hand out, squealing like little bitches for the same T&C's?
Let me tell you this for free. We know who you are. And tho we might smile sweetly accross the crew room and maybe even talk to you now and then? We are all thinking the same thing when we look at you! Lowlife piece of dog excrement!

I can understand that. When was the last time the Federation pilots negotiated better terms and conditions than the ALPA group so that the ALPA guys/Gals took advantage of the negotiation?
Off the top of my head, incentive pay, IT allowance, Requalification day after leave (effectively another three days leave per year).
Don't believe everything the likes of threecombs tell you. It is not all one way.

I get quite incensed when these alpa guys spurt out what they have told themselves in crew rooms and bars without ever bothering to check out the facts. The Air Nelson Federation members have been to the company and asked NOT to pick up the extra overnight payment. They have been told by the company that it is too hard for the company to do. If the Air Nelson pilots on this site don't believe me - go to John H and he will confirm this. FACT.
What has the Federation achieved? I can only speak for the main company. As mentioned above - incentive pay. This is a huge bonus to the pilots and has significantly increased the pilots take home pay. As a Federation member I would gladly give up the gains that we are getting from the alpa Holidays Act court action if alpa pilots gave up their incentive pay. I certainly know who would be winning from that situation. The RQ day at the end of 14 days leave is another three days leave effectively per year that was negotiated by the Federation that alpa picked up by virtue of their clause that states that whatever another pilot group negotiates we will get. So who have actually put in their contract that they are bottom feeders and want to take what others can achieve. The Federation does not have this in their CEA. Go figure.
There are many others but these are the main ones. The most recent one is the ability of second officers and B737 first officers to move off their aircraft to a new position after two years. This is in the Federation CEA and was picked up by alpa at the last CEA round.
I can only assume that threecombs is very new in the system and very naive. Don't just listen to what you are told by your alpa leadership. Do your own thinking if you are capable.
